Local scientists and community activists searched the North Chickamauga Creek Pocket Wilderness for the endangered hellbender salamander on Monday. Scientists used a new environmental DNA (eDNA) technique to search for the fish, allowing them to test the water for proof of the salamander, rather than having to physically find one.
