Wright on track to greatness

Red Bank graduate is key part of Lady Vols records

Overcome by fatigue, Phoebe Wright crossed the finish line and got sick.

KNOXVILLE — Tennessee wide receiver Ahmad Paige sustained an undisclosed neck injury and was taken by an ambulance to the hospital after hitting a brick wall in the southeast corner of Neyland Stadium during practice Friday night.

A familiar chant filled Neyland Stadium on a chilly Friday night.

Overcast skies unleashed a steady downpour, the temperature hovered in the low 40s and blustery winds swirled relentlessly.

With orange and white streamers raining from the rafters of Thompson-Boling Arena, Alex Fuller joined her teammates in an impromptu post-game celebration, waving her thanks to the crowd of 14,157 and high-fiving fans in the student section.

KNOXVILLE — As the lone senior on the Tennessee women’s basketball team, Alex Fuller assumed a leadership role by necessity.

Tennessee Lady Vols find heart

Shekinna Stricklen, Kelley Cain lead UT to a needed win over Mississippi State

In a recent team meeting, Tennessee women’s basketball freshman Shekinna Stricklen stepped up and apologized to her teammates for her lack of “heart and passion” during a four-game stretch in which the defending national champions dropped three games.

A gritty defensive effort and a dominant second-half spurt lifted seventh-ranked Duke to a 62-54 women’s basketball win over Tennessee before a pink-clad crowd of 16,690 at Thomson-Boling Arena on Monday night.

As teammate Shekinna Stricklen writhed under the basket and cried out in pain during the first half of Tennessee's 80-61win over Alabama on Thursday, Lady Vols senior forward Alex Fuller hoped for the best.
