Assessor asks for more funding for reappraisal during the second day of Hamilton County budget hearings

Included in this article

Hamilton County Assessor of Property Bill Bennett asked county commissioners for a 12.3 percent increase in his budget this morning because of extra costs due to next year’s property reappraisal.

The budget request was about $400,000 more than last year’s $3.2 million budget for the assessor’s office.

Mr. Bennett said “95 to 99 percent” of the extra cost was due to the reappraisal.

State law mandates that the county reappraise property every four years.

Mr. Bennett’s office asked for $50,000 more for postage, $18,500 more for fuel and $34,000 more for office supplies.

Today was the second day of the county’s budget hearings.

Also presenting requests today were the Humane Society, social service organizations and the Fortwood Center.

Comments

Reappraisal $$$. Current home values have dropped 10%? 20%?....there's been lots of talk about it. Automatically DROPPING current appraisals by the percentage housing values have dropped = instant new appraisal....without any extra expense...huh??
