Ruth Forester Mockbee, of Chattanooga, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 3, 2010. She was a loving Mother and Nanny to all her children and grand/great children. She was 85 years old.She was a graduate of Central High School of 1944 and also a junior graduate of Mars-Hill College. She became associated with Chattanooga Gas Company for many years. Ruth and her husband, T. J. Mockbee Jr. owned and operated Mockbees Florist on Highway 58 until his death. She then became associated with Mountain City Club for 15 years.She was an active member of Central Baptist Church (Abbas House) and Ester Sunday School Class and several garden clubs.Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas J. Mockbee Jr.; her parents, Paul and Robbie Forester; her twin sister, Ruby Forester and sister, Frances Forester-Finnell. Ruth is survived by her daughter, Dorothy Mary Mockbee (Tim Mosteller), of Chattanooga; son, Thomas Jordan Mockbee III (Linda), Washington, DC; sister, Dorothy Forester Myers, Chattanooga; brother-in-law, Paul Finnell; niece, Paula Kay Finnell Lambert, Davenport, Fla.; great nephew, Cy Lambert, Jacksonville, Fla.; granddaughter, Jennifer Mockbee Medina (Jesse), Jacksonville, Fla.; grandson, Kyle Mockbee, Newport News, Va.; greatgranddaughter, Alexa Perez, Jacksonville, Fla.; great-step-grandchildren, Mercedes Medina, and Jesse Medina, Jacksonville, Fla. and many cousins.The family will receive friends 10 to 11:30 a.m. today at the North Chapel.Service for Ruth will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, TN 37343, with the Rev. Sam Stansbury, of Nashville, Tenn. officiating. Burial will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.We wish to give our most sincere thanks and appreciation to all the people of Red Bank Life Care Center and Hospice of Chattanooga that were involved in their love and care given to Ruth during her illness.Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist.
