CENTRE Mr. Roy Joseph Bruce, 93, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at Cherokee County Health and Rehab.Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jim Wright and the Rev. Melvyn Salter officiating. Entombment will follow in Green Hill Memory Garden Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today, at the funeral home.Pallbearers include Ken Bruce, Kyle Bruce, Bill Chandler, Ken Parker, Alan Moore and Patrick Moore.Honorary Pallbearers: Members of John Wards Sunday school class of Centre First Baptist Church; Harold Day, Cecil Poovey, Harlan Cochran, Freddy Reynolds and Tony Coley.Survivors include his wife, Shelby League Bruce; step-son, Raymond (Dawne) Williams, of Gadsden; step-daughter, Tina (Jim) Floyd, of Centre; brother, Guy Bruce, of Lafayette, Ga.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arah Bruce and brothers, Ruel Bruce and Ray Bruce.Mr. Bruce was a native of Chattooga County, Ga., the son of the late Guy and Grace Loggins Bruce, and a veteran of WWII. He was CEO and Partner with Chandler Fabric Stores for 33 years and was owner of Mr. Roys of Leesburg. He was a founding member and served on the Board of Directors of First Tennessee Bank.Mr. Bruce was a member of the Centre First Baptist Church, where he served as Sunday school teacher and trustee. He was also very active with Carpenters for Christ. He was a member of the Lions Club, the Kiwanis Club and the American Legion. He served as area leader of the Boy Scouts of America, was charter member of the Trion 50 yard club, was past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a mason.
