Pete Chaney passed away Monday, Aug. 30, 2010.He was born in Danville, Va., on Dec. 30, 1932 to Eugene Withers Chaney and Grace Hayden Chaney.A lifelong newspaper man he worked for and ran dozens of newspapers in Virginia, the Carolinas and Tennessee.In the 1980s he co-authored a million selling book with Lee Stoller, "One Day At A Time," the biography of country singer Christy Lane. More recently he self-published a historical novel set in Chattanooga entitled "The Valley of the Mules."He served in the U.S. Army in the 1950s and was stationed in Germany.He is survived by his eldest daughter, Catherine Chaney Bowman, of Denver; and his son, Michael Withers Chaney, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; as well as by a granddaughter and two grandsons. Another daughter, Robyn Louvein Chaney passed away in 1991. He also leaves four stepchildren, Alan Cooke, Randall Cooke, Sandra Miller and Janet Cooke.
