Bledsoe County

DUNLAP, Tenn. — On a softball team loaded with heavy hitters, it would be easy to overlook Katelynne Cheatham. Only a sophomore, Cheatham is surrounded by Sequatchie County's talented upperclassman teammates but proved again Monday why she is every bit as lethal at the plate.

DUNLAP, Tenn. — With the way Brooklyn Girdley was pitching, and how strong the defense was behind her, the win for Sequatchie County's softball team was pretty well secured after the first inning. The insurance runs that came late provided enough to claim the tiebreaker over rival Bledsoe County and give the Lady Indians the regular-season District 7-AA title and the top seed for next week's district tournament.

As he turned his attention to spring football, Jason Reel knew that many of the pieces were in place for Bledsoe County to defend its District 7-AA championship.

As far as Bledsoe County coach Jason Reel is concerned, the record is 0-1, and he isn't talking Sequatchie's record against his Warriors this year.

Annual prep tour kicks off practice

What started as a fun idea has turned into a tradition and the one event I get asked about more than any other that I cover.

Bledsoe County pushed across the go-ahead run in the bottom of the third inning and winning pitcher Lydia Ritchie made it stand the rest of the way and the Lady Warriors defeated DeKalb County 4-3 and won the Region 4-AA high school softball championship Wednesday.

District 7-AA regular-season champion Sequatchie County owned a two-run lead over Bledsoe County heading into the seventh inning of the district tournament's winners-bracket final. As odd as it seems, Bledsoe's Lady Warriors had the Lady Indians right where they wanted them.

Jimmy Tarver wasn't in the best of moods Wednesday afternoon. Bledsoe County's baseball team had just endured a lopsided loss to rival Sequatchie County with most of Bledsoe's student body in attendance.

It was good to be at home and Signal Mountain made the most of it, sweeping Bledsoe County 11-7 and 7-0 in a high school baseball doubleheader Friday.
