Front-Wheel Drive
When the Chattanooga-based Southern Comfort Maltese Rescue found out about a puppy born without front legs, it acted immediately to help her. The rescue group brought Hope to orthotist David Turnbill, wo designed a special prosthetic device to give Hope greater mobility and protect her developing bones.

Babies of the 1/181st

Since soldiers with the Tennessee Army National Guard's 1/181st Field Artillery Battalion left in June to train for deployment, at least eight babies have been born to fathers serving in the war zone. Several others left just after their babies were born. From missing out on first-year milestones to the strains of single parenting, this deployment brings special challenges for these families.

According to the Tennessee Department of Education, more than 40 percent of school children statewide are overweight or at risk of being overweight. Russell Cliche hopes to change that. As director of the coordinated school health program for Hamilton County Schools, he and a team of school nurses since September have been recording the height, weight and blood pressure of about 2,000 local students.
