Volkswagen of America today reported that sales last month climbed 47.9 percent as the German automaker with a plant in Chattanooga had its best January since 1974.

Volkswagen plans to create 200 new jobs at its Chattanooga plant as it bolsters production from 31 to 35 cars per hour, according to the automaker.
