The Gun Shop

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

BETTER OFF TED

Republicans have a disturbing desire to be the GUN Party and thus have embraced the mantle, 'More than irrational but less than psychotic.'

Besides, why would anyone shop at a gun store and pay retail when you have a better selection at better prices without a time consuming background check at gun shows? Weird.

When you ask republican law makers why they support universal gun ownership for every citizen, non-citizen, criminal, terrorist, undocumented alien, and anyone else, they always repeat the mantra, 2nd Amendment, 2nd Amendment...

But, as Ted Cruz said recently:

THE SINGLE THING THAT REPUBLICAN POLITICIANS HATE AND FEAR THE MOST IS WHEN THEY'RE FORCED TO TELL THE TRUTH. IT MAKES THEIR HEADS EXPLODE.

What hype? The Republican Party and Democrat Party are not that much different. They're both part of the power elite. They like things the way they are. They just want to get along and play golf together and be invited to parties in D.C. The Democrat Party is a left wing nightmare, and the GOP are a gutless and just talk a good game. They're afraid of not being liked. The trashing of the Constitution as reached new heights under BO. They don't equally trash it, but sit around and letting it happen is just as bad. If the GOP claims that BO is abusing his power, which I believe, then do something about it. Rinos are barely different than Democrats. Many on this forum keep referring to the GOP as conservative, they may say they're conservative, but they're absolutely not. They're nothing. They have no leadership.

Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said he had been "assured" by unnamed sources the company would manufacture the SUV in Chattanooga if employees said no to the UAW

From Today's Headlines in the Digital TFP:

*Volkswagen’s top labor representative threatened today to try to block further investments by the German carmaker in the U.S. South if its workers there are not unionized, Reuters reported today.

“I can imagine fairly well that another VW factory in the United States, provided that one more should still be set up there, does not necessarily have to be assigned to the South again,” said Bernd Osterloh,a member of VW’s powerful supervisory board and head of VW’s works council.

Rev. Al Sharpton said of the minimum wage, “What must be weighed in any analysis, CBO and others, is that blacks suffer disproportionately from having to do work and not get the kind of wages that we need. This is a central concern in our community. It’s not just having a job; but having wages that are guaranteed to provide for our families. We had full employment in the black community during slavery. We just didn’t have wages. So we don’t want just a job, we want a job that pays, and pays so that we can take care of our families.” The Slave-Card. Now there's something we can all agree on.

Perhaps it isn't compensating for something, as much as going overboard. Americans tend to go big. Big cars, big TVs, bigger meals at the fast food restaurant. Like the Mustang or Corvette- why does anyone need that much power to drive down the road? Sure, take it to a track, but what percentage of those cars sold actually do that? (And I'm a car guy) I give my friend a hard time because he has a big Ford diesel. He lives in a subdivision. I ask him (sarcastically) if he's been hauling cattle lately. No, but he takes his kid to swim lessons. Now, I'm not innocent in this either. I have my own way(s) of going overboard. I think we all do.

I think the study below spells out the differences in attitudes about jobs today

Moving the War on Poverty Forward Millennials and the New Efforts to Reduce Poverty in America

"Half in Ten and the Center for American Progress recently conducted a study of public attitudes toward federal anti-poverty efforts on the 50th anniversary of President Lyndon B. Johnson’s War on Poverty. We closely examined the beliefs of younger Americans toward work, economic opportunity, and the social safety net. Our national survey of more than 2,000 adults included a significant oversample of Millennials ages 18 to 34, providing us with a total of 1,035 interviews with this important constituency and allowing us to compare their attitudes with older Americans. The full survey methodology is described below.

Overall, the study finds that Millennials are more likely than older Americans to face direct economic problems. Findings also indicate that they are more supportive than non-Millennials of past War on Poverty efforts, as well as new proposals to reduce poverty by focusing on jobs, wages, and educational opportunities. Although these differences are often matters of degree rather than differences of opinion between age groups, the data suggest that Millennials are likely to be very strong supporters of renewed efforts to fight poverty and expand economic opportunity by addressing the problems of a low-wage economy and reduced economic mobility.

Comparisons between Millennials and other Americans are described in detail in the full report. The most important findings from the oversample of Millennials include:" Read the rest at

Nope. I would never take a life. That does not mean that I am not opposed to justice being served, and Zimmerman deserves the same punishment for his ending of a life that he, himself, should not have been in a position to take.

"You shoot off your mouth BUT have you ever taken a life?"

Nope, but then I don't put myself into situations where that is ever a consideration to ponder.

You're right and I assure you that is something I have no shame about.

I'm humble as hell, but that does not mean that I cannot see the absolute travesty of justice when it comes to Zimmerman being allowed to live and breathe while the young man he killed is rotting in a grave.

And you know what? It's not my problem nor do I pontificate about it very often, but I hope that someone does put George Zimmerman out of his misery, with an Uzi.

The Super Official News ... It’s the best. Here are some of the details:

Paul Horner who headed up the 5-year study for the group explained to reporters how they came to the conclusion of their findings.

He spent 5 years measuring fat guys penises? ... Really? I think he just wanted to handle the equipment”

We took a group of over 500 male gun owners in various cities all around the country. Half of the men weighed under 200 lbs while the other half weighed over 200 lbs. We noticed immediately that the guns owned by the men weighing under 200 lbs were your normal size guns, your Glock pistols and such. The men weighing over 200, 300 and especialy 400 lbs all owned semi-automatic rifles and large weapons such as AK47′s. (?)

One individual weighing 769 lbs owned a Howitzer and scientists were unable to locate the man’s penis

An excellent example of where you Fleabaggers get you data.

Yes, I saw that interview, Alprova. He has the look of insanity about his eyes. He's also traveling the circuit on Latino TV giving interviews claiming he was the victim, and blaming everyone on up to and including President Obama for everything. The funny thing is, before he never had much of anything to do with the Latino community. He considered himself white and it was the cop on the scene who also originally marked "white" as the person who shot and killed Martin.

So now, Zimmerman is pulling out the Latino card to gain sympathy and support from the Latina community. interesting.

He said to also have a wealthy rightwing benefactor who allege to also be a powerful politician out of Texas that's been secretly keeping him afloat. Me thinks it's this rightwingnutjob conservative poltiician that's pushing these interviews on these Latino talk shows. The poltician is gearing up to gain control get as many Latino on the GOP board as possible by using Zimmerman's ethnicity, although until the Martin killing he never really identified with the Latino community according to many.

Yes, the police will be carrying guns as they make out a report and offer their condolences to Mr. Bennett.

Only con would equate the 2nd amendment with police carrying weapons.

The Constitution only authorizes weapons in two places. The first is where they are implicitly authorized thought the creation of a military. The second is the Second Amendment and since the police are not part of the military they must get their authorization through that amendment ... Right?

Just goes to show you can find what you want to find when you're looking for it. Like this study out of that GREAT BASTION OF GUN FREEDOM: TEXAS. LOL

*Texas A&M Study Says Castle-Doctrine Laws Increase Homicides, Don't Deter Crime

"a Texas A&M study has found that the castle doctrine -- on which Florida's controversial "Stand Your Ground" law is based --does not deter crime and, in fact, increases murder rates.

The killing of Florida teen Trayvon Martin by neighborhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman in late February launched thousands of arguments about castle doctrine laws, which allow a person to use lethal force against an intruder in certain situations, provided they have a reasonable fear of death or serious bodily harm. Lawmakers in several states, including Texas, have debated revising their own self-defense laws.

"We found a 7 to 9 percent increase in homicides," says one of the study's authors, associate economics professor Mark Hoekstra. "That's significant. That's robust.

"We did comparisons in a bunch of different ways," he goes on. "We compared states that adopt [the law] to states that don't adopt. It doesn't matter if you control for things like policing or levels of incarceration. You can compare to only other states in the same region. It doesn't matter. At the end of the day, castle doctrine increased homicides by 7 to 9 percent."

Hoekstra and his co-author, grad student Chen Cheng, looked at 23 states where castle doctrine laws exist and found slight evidence that castle doctrine increases justifiable homicides committed by civilians by anywhere from 17 to 50 percent. That sounds like a lot. But the reality is that justifiable homicide is narrowly defined and exceedingly rare: according to the FBI, a killing can only be classified that way when someone kills another person who's committing a felony. Fewer than 200 deaths are classified that way each year.

Instead, the study found that castle doctrine increases total homicides, including murder and non-negligent homicide, by 7 to 9 percent, making a much larger 500 to 700 additional deaths per year."

Read the rest if you dare. LOL http://blogs.dallasobserver.com/unfairpark/2012/06/texas_am_study_castle_doctrine.php

I'm really trying to make some sense out of what you said here. But ya know what? Ain't a bit of sense to it!

I watched that CNN interview and Zimmerman is not taking responsibility for anything. Not only is he not remorseful in any way, he actually thinks he's a scapegoat! Let me make sure I have this right....he took it upon himself to stalk and confront an unarmed teenager who was minding his own business, not disturbing the peace in any way, and had every right to be where he was... and however Trayvon Martin reacted to this nut with a gun we'll never really know, but Zimmerman ended up shooting and killing him, and a jury found him completely not guilty. And now this pathetic excuse of a human being is conducting interviews telling everyone he's a "scapegoat," as if he's now the victim, all the while the innocent life of a teenager has been snuffed out by his hasty and inexcusable actions.

So enlighten me, jesse, how does that make Zimmerman any more of a man than alprova or anybody else for that matter? Just because he killed another human being? You seem to think that killing someone is itself sufficient to make someone a "real man." Please... enlighten us as to how George Zimmerman is "more of a man."

jesse, claiming to be a scapegoat is not "taking responsibility." Of course Zimmerman doesn't deny he killed him, there is indisputable proof that he did! He would be a fool - or even more of a fool, rather - to deny it. It's just a matter of the exact circumstances under which he killed him that are in question. Many serial killers have admitted to their killings - does that make them manly for having admitted it, especially after the fact of being caught and they had little other alternative but to fess up?

Now, if Zimmerman said, "You know what, I was hasty in what I did. I should have listened to the cops who told me to leave him alone and I had no right to stalk Treyvon Martin and confront him. His death was preventable and wrong...if only I had left him alone like I should have." Then, he might get a little more respect for manning up.

And now we pause from our regularly scheduled gun debate:

Looks like Bob "Nissan" Corker might need to get a quick course in German Language because he was assured the UAW vote would have no effect on whether or not VW would expand their line in Chatt.

Volkswagen’s top labor representative threatened today to try to block further investments by the German carmaker in the U.S. South if its workers there are not unionized, Reuters reported today.

Of course he would say that ... he’s a union puke after all ..... That’s what they do. He and his union were the ones pushing this union vote and now they have generated a lot of dissention amongst the workers at VW. I’m sure the VW corporate board are happy with his results and will be following his lead in the future.

“I can imagine fairly well that another VW factory in the United States, provided that one more should still be set up there, does not necessarily have to be assigned to the South again,” said Bernd Osterloh,a member of VW’s powerful supervisory board and head of VW’s works council.

Exactly the kind of crap you get when you combine the union with the works council.

BTW ... We gave those krauts a good a^^ kicking a few years ago and maybe some of them need a good swift kick to refresh their memories.... Right?

How exactly do you propose that the company demands a union and the cities would provide one? For a union shop to form, the workers have to approve its existence . I guess they could hire only workers that are already union members or agree to vote for one. However even Obama’s NLRB would find it impossible to allow that violation of labor laws.

My opinion of him, I am happy to say, parallels yours almost to a "t" as they say. I don't know if you remember it or not since I do know how old you are, but when I was 10 or 12 instead of 62, and color TV had just come on the market, there was this cartoon show on Saturday mornings called "Deputy Dog". The main character was of course a large dumb talking dog who wore a western scarf, a 10-gallon hat, a badge, and a gun. He had a sidekick who was a small version of him of course, and he was always getting into gunfights with the "Bad Guys" and chasing them around trying to arrest them. We also had, during the late sixties a whole lot of characters who carried guns, and had false badges that they had bought at pawn shops, and rotating blue lights on the dashboards of their cars, and they got their kicks by impersonating cops and harassing people. Naturally, they were immediately tagged with the name Deputy Dog. This is what George Zimmerman is, a "Deputy Dog". And someday someone who will not stand for that nonsense will shoot him. I feel sorry for that person because he will have to undergo arrest and trial at the least for someone who is not worth it. And although they will probably be acquitted of any crime, they will still go through things they don't deserve to have to endure because of someone who is an absolute dick.

The United States has an estimated firearm-related homicide rate of about 3.6 per 100,000 people. This rate is in the top quarter of all countries.

Three states with diverse voting characteristics and firearm homicide rates (Virginia, Minnesota, and Louisiana) were investigated as a representative subset of the United States.

Virginia was a battleground state in the 2012 election with President Obama receiving about 3% more votes than Governor Romney... the Virginia 2012 firearm homicide rate was the 23rd highest in the nation at 2.7 per 100,000 people.

Minnesota was solidly blue in the 2012 election with President Obama receiving almost 8% more votes than Governor Romney. The Minnesota 2012 firearm homicide rate was the 43rd highest in the nation at 0.8 per 100,000 people.

Louisiana was a solidly red state in the 2012 election with President Obama receiving about 17% fewer votes than Governor Romney. The Louisiana 2012 firearm homicide rate was the highest in the nation at 8.0 per 100,000 people.

(Sure looks bad for the Red states ... Right?)

Each firearm homicide listed in Louisiana, Virginia, and Minnesota was mapped to an individual voting precinct and plotted against the percentage of the vote received by President Obama in 2012.

This indicates that almost 80% of the firearm homicides that were committed in Louisiana took place in voting precincts that gave President Obama more than 50% of the vote. The percentage of firearm homicides that occurred in similar Democrat voting precincts in Virginia and Minnesota were even higher.

Want to quote studies? See,there's one for everyone. BTW Missouri is a RED STATE that went for Romney. LOL

"Missouri gun murders 'rose after law repeal"

*Researchers claim a new study provides some of the most compelling evidence yet for tighter gun controls in the US.

The team followed the consequences of the State of Missouri repealing its permit-to-purchase handgun law in 2007.

The law had required purchasers to be vetted by the local sheriff and to receive a licence before buying a gun.

Reporting soon in the Journal of Urban Health, the researchers will say that the repeal resulted in an immediate spike in gun violence and murders.

The study links the abandonment of the background check to an additional 60 or so murders occurring per year in Missouri between 2008 and 2012.

"Coincident exactly with the policy change, there was an immediate upward trajectory to the homicide rates in Missouri," said Prof Daniel Webster, director of the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Policy and Research.*

And now for yet another pause from our regularly scheduled gun debate:

Looks like "Flying J" Haslam is trying to make nice after winning the Anti-UAW vote. Now it appears if the megasite in Memphis is sold to another Car Manufacturer it won't matter if the UAW is already established in that plant. WOW looks like Haslam might be worried about capturing that Memphis vote. Who is he afraid of from Memphis? LOL

From the TFP: Bill Hagerty, the chief economic development official in Republican Gov. Bill Haslam's Cabinet, said that a megasite outside of Memphis would be ideally suited for a new auto assembly plant --even if its workers are represented by the UAW, the Associated Press reported.

Haslam, Corker and fellow Republicans in the state Legislature argued that a UAW win would have hurt the region's ability to attract suppliers and other future business to the state.

So why wouldn't the same concern about suppliers not supporting a UAW plant in Chattanooga not apply to a car manufacturing plant in Memphis?

Hagerty said the state is "ready and willing to market the site to any major company that's interested in Tennessee. If you go through and look at the projects we've navigated and worked through since we've been in, we've had a mix of union and non-union employers."

Yeah, right everywhere else but at the VW plant in Chatt. This kind of BS is unbelievable.

PlainTruth said... Schultz, what is your gat that shoots 5.7mm?

I will assume(although that tends to get me in trouble..:=))that yours is a serious question which deserves a serious (and polite) answer. The weapon is a Fabrique National Herstal 5.7mm semi-automatic. It's a Belgian designed weapon, but FN has a factory in the U.S. that builds it for the US market. It's a controversial weapon, and the Brady Bunch(the anti-gunners, not the TV show)and other organizations tried to get the BATFE NOT to let this pistol be sold in the U.S. for a couple of reasons. 1) It has a 20 round mag and you get 3 of them so obviously you'll have more ammo(60rounds) than almost anyone else. 2) The ammo is very powerful and even the special civilian bullet that they sell has been known to penetrate a few of the cheaper level IIA Kevlar vests which is what they give to most cops, so you can see why they would be unhappy about it. and 3)The round has the highest muzzle velocity (1700 fps)that I have ever heard of in a handgun. In point of fact it was originally designed for a submachine gun(the P90) and it's a bottleneck cartridge which holds a crapload of propellant and the bullet is a spire pointed TMJ round. In spite of this, the gun has no more recoil than a .22LR. Think of it as a .223 on steroids. The reason I bought it is because it makes sense to me that if I need a gun to defend myself it means that, for whatever reason, the situation has gotten out of control and I need every advantage to come out of it alive. Statistically, people who win gunfights have a)a ton of ammo b)a very powerful gun that's still very controllable and c)a gun with a report so deafeningly loud that your opponent will be startled and demoralized. I have been to ranges where people jump when I fire my first round and then stare at me(outdoor ranges!)It's very powerful and scary gun. Unfortunately the ammo is somewhat scarce at the moment although that situation is improving now that people are not quite as afraid that Obama will try to confiscate their guns, it's becoming easier to get ammo because people are not hoarding it as much as they were. The panic buying has not quite stopped but it has slowed down, and as long as Obama doesn't open his mouth and utter the the words "executive order" and the words "guns, ammo, or 2nd amendment" in the same sentence everything will calm down again. If you would like details on the weapon there are a ton of forums on it on the web. I CAN give you price info though. If you're thinking of buying one, then outfit your wallet with a $1200.00 bill and don't expect any change back. I hope this has been helpful to you.

"For a decade, Tennessee has been ranked among the nation's 10 most violent states. Now it tops the list.

Recently released FBI data show Tennessee had the highest per capita violent crime rate in the nation in 2012. Statistically, 643.6 out of every 100,000 residents were victims of murder, rape, robbery or aggravated assault.

Five of the largest cities in Tennessee -- those with populations of 50,000 or more -- were over that state average, and Chattanooga was fourth on the list.

Chattanooga's 993.9 per capita violent crime rate puts it behind Memphis, Jackson and Nashville and ahead of Knoxville. But zero in on the state's four mid-sized cities -- those with populations of 100,000 to 350,000 -- and Chattanooga is the most dangerous in the state.

Flying J Haslam says it was going to be harder having suppliers for VW if the UAW was there but then HIS CHIEF ECONOMIC OFFICER IN HIS CABINET SAYS IF THEY SELL THE MEGASITE IN MEMPHIS TO AN AUTO MANUFACTURER THEY WON'T HAVE ANY PROBLEMS IF THE PLANT IS ALREADY UNIONIZED WITH THE UAW. SO, VW CAN'T HAVE THE UAW BECAUSE OF THE SUPPLIERS BUT OPEN UP A NEW PLANT IN MEMPHIS AND THE SUPPLIERS WON'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE UAW. AND THAT'S NOT TALKING OUT OF BOTH SIDES OF YOUR MOUTH?

No, what Haslam is concerned about is being labled a job-killer if VW takes their new line to Mexico and they can't get any other major auto manufacturer to give Tennessee a chance. It would put a dent in his chances of being able to run for another shot at something and not being able to put this behind him. It's just that simple.

And your posts are proof positive that education has never been a major concern for you. Hopefully, you at least got through high school. Most of the time the ones who holler the loudest about their not being any "apples left in the barrel" are the ones who didn't work to put any in the first place and have been living off the apples provided by others who did work. I have no doubt you can identify with that.

When the post was originally made at 1:04 it was to correct what I had written earlier which you so clearly pointed out was incorrect. The report DID NOT NAME CHATTANOOGA AS THE MOST DANGEROUS IN THE NATION. IT NAMED TENNESSEE AS THE MOST DANGEROUS IN THE NATION AND CHATTANOOGA AS THE MOST DANGEROUS CITY IN TENNESSEE. SO I CORRECTED MY ERROR.

At 2:01, I posted in response to PT why I had written about Chattanooga and Tennessee's ranking by the FBI. Now if you had truly been trying to catch someone on something you would have read all the way through.

Below are the posts that you should have read all the way through so you would know you hadn't scored any points. LOL

"PlainTruth said... shameful says "TENNESSEE IS THE MOST DANGEROUS IN THE NATION AND CHATTANOOGA IS THE MOST DANGEROUS IN TENNESSEE AND THE STATE OF TN IS A RED STATE THAT VOTED OVERWHELMINGLY FOR MITT ROMNEY. YOU DEAL WITH IT." ergo, TN is most dangerous state because it voted for Romney. Eh Shamed? Sounds like something MSNBC would posit"

My response to PT: Instead of sitting around with your usual one-liners why don't you read the reason that was posted. Tudumb and Dumbdegage made posts trying to make a connection between gun violence and states and cities that voted for Obama. As per usual in their over-zealous effort to make that connection they forgot to look in their own backyard. Maybe you should as well. They made the connection, I simply gave them the facts on Chattanooga and it's voting pattern. You don't like it? tough tutti

BTW the skinny on Tennessee and Chattanooga came from an FBI report. Now it may have appeared on MSNBC but it came straight from data collected and analyzed by the FBI. Got a problem with that(as I was told by some numbnut poster) take it up with the FBI. LOL

"degage said... JT, L.A. Chicago and new York rate highest gun related gun homicides in nation. All three voted for Obama by large numbers. New Orleans is a democrat city, one of the top cities, even tho the rest of the state is republican."

My response to the above: Yep, and those happen to be the most populous cities in the United States as well. Maybe you should take a course in stats before you try to make illogical connections. BTW Chattanooga was deemed the most "dangerous" city in the nation by the FBI last year and Obama lost in all of Hamilton County to Romney. LOL

Keep trying maybe one day you'll get something right. Doubtful though. LOL

Here is a plan...Require anyone applying for a drivers license to attend a gun safety course plus buy a gun and demonstrate they know how to use it. You get both license or neither. The driver license test needs to be more difficult but the state doesn't fund the operation adequately.

Did VW anti-union voters in Chattanooga just screwed themselves?

Huffing Post: "Turns Out Anti-Union Volkswagen Workers May Have Screwed Themselves And The South"

Volkswagen employees may have made a huge mistake when they rejected union membership on Friday.

Employees at VW's Chattanooga plant voted against representation by United Auto Workers, leaving the factory as the only Volkswagen plant worldwide without a formal mechanism for workers' representation.

The German "co-determination" model mandates works councils, which connect employees to management, at all large German companies. Following the union vote, the head of Volkswagen's works council told German newspaper Sueddeutsche Zeitung that the automaker would hesitate to expand in the U.S. South.

"I can imagine fairly well that another VW factory in the United States, provided that one more should still be set up there, does not necessarily have to be assigned to the South again," said works council leader Bernd Osterloh.

Your opinion and you're entitled to it just like I'm entitled to mine about that racist pig Zimmerman.

I agree 10,000%

And the Stand Your Ground Law, with SYG lanuguage has made its way into Castle Doctrine Laws in many states without an official SYG law. The law isn't just morally wrong, it's reprehensible and evil. Take the recent abduction of 10 Missouri child, Hailey Owens, who was later found murdered allegedly by teacher's aide and coach, Craig Michael Wood. In many SYG states he could very well use the law to prove self defense if the child put up a fight. This is how the law is worded in many states. A victim can become assailant if they put up a fight to defend themselves and gain the upper hand, even temporarily.

Missouri doesn't have a stand your ground law, but SYG language has made its way into their Castle Doctrine Law.

Japanese companies kept a close eye on the United Auto Workers election at Chattanooga's Volkswagen plant last week, Japanese Consul-General Motohiko Kato said at an event at UTC Tuesday. The island nation is the largest foreign investor in Tennessee, with more than 41,000 people employed at 172 Japanese companies across the state.

"Right-to-work is one of the important issues for Japanese companies," Kato said, adding that some Japanese see unions as unnecessary because maintaining positive management-employee relations is already a top priority.

"Under the Japanese business culture, the Japanese CEO tries to maintain good communications with the workers, tries to have regular meetings and give a full explanation of what is going on," he said.

Japanese companies have collectively invested $15.7 billion in Tennessee, according to the Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development. They're lured by the state's central geographic location, transportation assessiblity and ample incentives. Japanese carmaker Nissan employs about 7,000 people in Tennessee alone, and many of the carmaker's suppliers followed Nissan to the Volunteer State.

http://www.timesfreepress.com/news/2014/feb/19/japanese-companies-lead-investment-in-tennessee/?businesstnvalley

Screw the Krauts if they don’t want to build here. They have 1500 employees and Nissan alone has 7000. The Japanese companies are much, much more important and I personally only drive their vehicles and not the Kraut or UAW trash.
