The Big Tent

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

How intellectually lazy and morally bankrupt can toonboy be when he feels ethically comfortable to depicts his political opponents as constructing a gas chamber to exterminate peoples that he feels they hate. ... Reductio ad Hitlerum (playing the Nazi card) !!

If this really is a depiction of a fumigation then there must be a pesticide agent in the van. I wonder why toonboy didn’t show it openly as he has already implied it and I’m sure it would have printed on it a very infamous name .... Right?

Such as:

Zyklon B was the trade name of a cyanide-based pesticide invented in the early 1920s. The product was infamous for its use by Nazi Germany to murder an estimated 1.2 million people, including approximately 960,000 Jews, in gas chambers of extermination camps during the Holocaust.

When the left runs out of valid arguments, which is quite often, they have little or nothing to fall back on except violating the laws of rational and ethical debate.

Godwin's law applies especially to inappropriate, inordinate, or hyperbolic comparisons of one's opponent(s) with Nazis – often referred to as "playing the Hitler card". Godwin's law does not claim to articulate a fallacy; it is instead framed as a memetic tool to reduce the incidence of inappropriate hyperbolic comparisons. "Although deliberately framed as if it were a law of nature or of mathematics, its purpose has always been rhetorical and pedagogical: I wanted folks who glibly compared someone else to Hitler or to Nazis to think a bit harder about the Holocaust", Godwin has written.

  • From Wiki

Personally I think the Times Free Press owes the citizens of their service area an apology for allowing this hateful depiction to be carried in their newspaper.

Toonboy needs to lose his job over this one.

The TFP HR department should suspend Clay Bennett for Rainbow Descrimination.

And I thought the rainbow was created by God after old Noah survived the big flood as a symbol that God would never send water to destroy all living creatures of the earth (except a few) again. My, my the poor rainbow.

Most likely many of them have been taught either by their parents or their church the concept of inclusivness of others in society, but these teachings have become supressed as they regress back to their more primitive mode of distrust of anyone or anything not like themselves.

When confused by different concepts, you can always count on conservatives to return to their most primitive ideas.

A 2007 National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) decision cited statistics that “showed a significant disparity between union card showings of support and ensuing [secret-ballot] election results.” The NLRB noted that unions that collected up to 70 percent of workers’ signatures on union cards still “won only 48 percent of elections.”

The reason why UAW union officials do not want a secret-ballot election is clear: They know that the cards are not a true reflection of workers’ sentiment.

Instead, union cards often reflect the effectiveness of union organizers’ lies, coercion, and harassment. Even the AFL-CIO’s own “Guidebook for Union Organizers” openly acknowledged that union cards are “Sometimes…signed to ‘get the union off my back’.”

You want the TFP to apologize for Clay's cartoon? How about getting the GOP to apologize for its heinous actions in cutting off millions of Americans from unemployment insurance and food stamps, denying millions of poor people access to Medicaid, refusing to raise the minimum wage or to invest in education, and completely ignoring our crumbling, obsolescent infrastructure. It is impossible to determine the actual number of deaths and amount of deprivation that can be directly attributed to the GOP's stubborn refusal to invest in anything other than corporate subsidies and obscene spending on our bloated military budget. As far as Republicans and you corporate boot-licking teabaggers and other neo-cons are concerned, it is better to keep giving a hand OUT in the form of tax cuts to the rich and to maintain our system of corporate socialism than to give a hand UP to the poor, the uninsured, and the unemployed.

It might be a hateful depiction but that is only because it illustrates a hateful truth. The GOP is not just the party of NO, it is the party of hate - hate for anyone other than rich old white guys (and the few blacks like Maximus who ACT and THINK like rich old white guys).

Do you actually feel that the Republican party, which you define as supporters of only rich old white guys, would actually exterminate their political, economic, and cultural opponents in gas chambers if they had the opportunity? Answer it truthfully and let the world see how rational and sane you are ... or not.

BTW ... if you answer in the affirmative then explain why they didn’t take care of this when they were in total control?

You want the TFP to apologize for Clay's cartoon? How about getting the GOP to apologize for its heinous actions.

I will when the Fleabaggers apologizes for over 50 years of trying to destroy this country’s economic and cultural foundations... O.K. Pal !

conservative! More science for you to refute:

"...and now this: a scientific report establishing that camels, the basic mode of transportation for the biblical patriarchs, weren’t domesticated in Israel until hundreds of years after Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are said to have wandered the earth.

Using radiocarbon dating of camel bones that showed signs of having carried heavy loads, Israeli archaeologists have dated the earliest domesticated camels to the end of the 10th century BCE.

But according to the traditional biblical chronology, the patriarchs were schlepping around Canaan on camels over a millennium earlier, all the way back in 2100 BCE."

Come on you flat earth almanac reader, you William Jennings Bryan, you target for far away laughter.

Rickaroo, I left the Republican party some time back. Not because of the alleged lies and the other trash you said about the party. It was because they drifted to far left. I guess that makes me a constitutional zealot. A proud constitutional defender. When you have to suffer through a President who says the constitution is an outdated document, a document of negative liberties then you can get a little angry. This President taught constitutional law and knows that because he is a black man the Republicans are too scared to challenge him. He usurps the document that the rich white men sacrificed everything so we could be free. If the rich white man had not risked their lives, wealth and their sacred honor who knows what kind of country this would be. So think long and hard next time you decide to bad mouth them. They had a lot more to lose then you. Self reliance, Equal opportunity and HARD WORK built the greatest nation in the history of the world. Not food stamps, free housing, a welfare check, and free f'ing cell phones. You and people like you have destroyed the American dream. The give it all away (social justice) mentality has cost us dearly (17 Trillion and counting). Empires only last an average of 200 years because they make the same mistakes over and over again hoping for different outcomes. To complete the destruction of America lets all commit political suicide and vote for the Hilldabeast in 2016. She's actually further left than the welfare pimp we have now. As far as the safety net, we are in favor of a safety net not a safety hammock. At some point they have to take personal responsibility for themselves. I know Progressive Bush screwed up the economy, but that was seven years ago but 99 weeks of unemployment benefits is a little extreme.

I don't know about you, yet, but most conservatives are just as interested in changing the Constitution to suit their chosen ideals in controlling the citizenry, as those who seek to be truly free to live their lives as they should be allowed to do.

"When you have to suffer through a President who says the constitution is an outdated document, a document of negative liberties then you can get a little angry."

The Constitution IS an outdated document, and one that should most definitely evolve as this nation has since it was written.

"This President taught constitutional law and knows that because he is a black man the Republicans are too scared to challenge him."

Do you truly believe that? This President has waded through more crap coming from the Republicans than any Democrat in history.

"He usurps the document that the rich white men sacrificed everything so we could be free."

How? I challenge you to cite one sentence of the Constitution that he has "usurped."

"If the rich white man had not risked their lives, wealth and their sacred honor who knows what kind of country this would be."

The only thing that rich, white men have sacrificed are the family members of other families. They sat on their collective asses and allowed offspring of other families to fight their battles.

"So think long and hard next time you decide to bad mouth them. They had a lot more to lose then you."

You can't be serious.

"Self reliance, Equal opportunity and HARD WORK built the greatest nation in the history of the world."

I thought that Christian values fit into the picture somewhere. I guess not.

"Not food stamps, free housing, a welfare check, and free f'ing cell phones."

Setting aside the first three on your list, I'm quite sure if you were to check into it, there would be some rather wealthy Republicans in charge of the cell phone companies that are quite gracious to the Republican Party with their money, in exchange for the business. The program was started while GWB was in office, don't you know?

"You and people like you have destroyed the American dream."

Sorry pal, we used to be PART OF the American dream.

"The give it all away (social justice) mentality has cost us dearly (17 Trillion and counting)."

You had better do some research into your charges. We are on the downside of two rather expensive wars and a decade of increased military expenditures that add up to a majority of what has been spent.

"Empires only last an average of 200 years because they make the same mistakes over and over again hoping for different outcomes."

Well then, we've got 170 years left to reverse the damage that has been done, don't we?

"To complete the destruction of America lets all commit political suicide and vote for the Hilldabeast in 2016."

She's going to be elected. Might as well resign yourself to it now.

"She's actually further left than the welfare pimp we have now."

God, I hope so.

"I know Progressive Bush screwed up the economy, but that was seven years ago but 99 weeks of unemployment benefits is a little extreme."

You clearly are not aware of how long it took to restore this country back to prosperity after the same mistakes were made then that led to the Great Depression.

99 weeks is a cake walk in comparison.

Unemployment is on track to be below the threshold where a Republican will not even draw a yawn by the end of this year.

Good luck!!

Volsam - I guess you never heard of societies failing from issues such as a huge income disparity between the rich and poor, the rich owning and/or controlling the wealth or resources of the nation, and an absence or reduction of a middle class.

Perhaps you have read of societies that have failed because they cared only for the rich and powerful while diregarding their other citizens needs?

We are great because like so many of the industrialized countries of the world, we try to help all our citizens.

Al, during he great depression, we had a similar (not as extreme) progressive policy which prolonged the great depression by at least 5 years. If you remember we had to fight World war 2 to get out. Our empire known as the United states of America was founded 1776 so you do the math. I agree with Republican policy very rarely ,today's Republicans are yesterday's Democrats I didn't agree with the Dems back then either. Self reliance for healthy working age people, not slaves that wait at their mailboxes for their Gov't cheese, that's the American way, you must agree with that.

hotgiggity, Income inequality is a myth. You can only have income inequality in communist country's who control wages through force. In America we NOW have equal opportunity. The talking point should be skill and desire inequality. The problem is failed public education. The teachers union and big government changed the narrative to teachers instead of students. Over time incompetence leads to incompetence. The only way to break this cycle is through school choice and school voucher programs. When Carter created the Dept. Of Education the U.S ranked in the top 3 in almost every area of study, now we rank near the bottom of the list. So make your own conclusion about what caused this drop but the answer seems obvious.

Alpo, I think the rich white men you and hotdiggity keep referring to are the robber banker barons that took control of the federal reserve with the blessing of the second most progressive president in American history ( right behind king Obama ) Woodrow Wilson, who also had to have a world war to bail him out. Progressive policy's have never worked in the history of the world why do you people think it will work now? I'm telling you the path to prosperity is motivation, hard work, a strong family and as little Government intrusion as possible. The Government has a role in a free society . I hope we all agree that we need clean water, safe food, clean air and last but not least a strong well regulated militia (army) but the Government has grown to large and have waaaaay to much power and control. Remember when people fear the government its tyranny but when the Government fears the people it's LIBERTY.

"When you can provide evidence that a member or employee of a Tea Party group did such a thing."

http://cockingasnook.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/hitler-obama-tea-party-2-in-1.jpg%3Fw%3D510

Do we get your apology now or later?

First links #1 and #3 were a waste of your and my time as they prove nothing unless they have not been photo-shopped. In that case I have already covered individual action but that was not what you claimed ... is it?

Here is what you posted and it called for an apology from the Tea Party groups and you showed no evidence those pictures were at Tea Party events, they were members, or that they approved same.

You - I know you also demanded an apology from certain Tea Party groups for members carrying posters equating Obama to Hitler.

Me - When you can provide evidence that a member or employee of a Tea Party group did such a thing. However I will gladly condemn any individual that does conduct public debate in that manner.

Link #2 does show a billboard that compares Obama to not only Hitler but also Stalin. It was paid for by 5 or 6 members of the North Iowa Tea Party. However the members of the group that did not have a part in placing the ad condemned it as did the Iowa State Tea Party and the National Tea Party Patriots.

If you’re waiting for an "apology" from me then hold your breath till you pop as I had no part in any of that. If you want me to call on the Tea Party groups to condemn it then you can also hold you’re breath on that as well. They have done so and thus I have no need to asked them.

Now .... Will you ask Toonboy to apologize for comparing the GOP to Nazis building gas chambers to exterminate their political opponents? .... I believe I can go out on a limb and say you will not. ... You're just another typical B.S. artist.... Right?
