Mr. Grinch

about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Amazing that Chattanoogans could work so hard for more than thirty years to build a more inclusive environment and still have to deal with the voices of a minority who can and do damage the Chattanooga brand that has grown so bright.

This is a great example of why there should be a firewall between religious beliefs and government.

Perfect, Clay. If West lives on one of the local mountains, the imagery is absolute genius. Chattanooga as Whoville (I always thought of it as Hooterville). But who is our Cindy Lou Who?

December 10, 2013 at 12:56 a.m.

Stupid cartoon. "inclusive" is another word for accepting deviant behavior, or forcing everyone to accept it. In the year 2013 being enlightened is defined as accepting deviant behavior, like a man inserting his penis in another man's anus. Oh, isn't it a beautiful thing! You can pass all the silly laws you want, but homosexuality will never be accepted as normal.

I agree for economic reasons the domestic partners law should be aborted. Why are tax payers funding benefits for any family member? Where is the outrage about the discrimination against singles that has nothing to do with extended benefits to domestic partners? Why do singles pay higher income tax rates? Why are insurance rates for singles higher? Why are singles required to provide welfare in the form of tax deductions to those with kids? The list of how singles are discriminated against is reported to be over 1000 but as a minority group singles are helpless in protesting since the policy makers benefit from the discrimination and they seek the votes of those that condone the discrimination. Why are legislatures in the business of promoting marriage and who assigned them to decide what the American dream is for every person in America?

Fair would be no welfare in the tax codes in the form of tax deductions, reductions, incentives, filing jointly and other exceptions. Everyone with the same income Pay the same tax rate. There is no logical reason why someone preferring to be single and to not own a house should pay more in order to help those that opt to own a house and have kids.

Stop the discrimination against all singles in all forms and the issue regarding tax payers funding the cost of domestic partners or dependents would not exist.

What’s with all the baby socks in a same-sex household? There is a reason why you see no Cindy-Lou Who. (Someone needs to have a little talk with Bennett.)

And if Grinch finds any adult-size socks lying around, he should immediately return them to Chattanooga's policemen and firefighters, as they are missing some. Promises that “this will only hurt a little” are about as trustworthy as “you can keep your own insurance policy.”

None of the politicians who voted for the same-sex bill included the issue in his or her platform during the last election. A referendum is certainly in order. Let's see what the voters say about who is most deserving of taxpayer-funded benefits.

The gay thing is like the abortion thing. I don't agree with it and neither issue should be the primary driver of either your vote or political affiliation and ultimately the good Lord in his ultimate grace and perfection will judge us all for the decisions we make in life. Of course when you have a gay Democrat mayor......oh Mayor Andy is not gay.........really now? I think Democrat Mayor Andy is a closet gay and his wife will be standing beside him soon during his "I'm gay and I'm proud" news conference. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Why do the wives always have such a stunned look on their face. Did they not know their husband spoke with a lisp and was passionate about gay rights for his city employees? Does Mayor Andy have a secret storage unit? :)

They are elected to be good stewards of taxpayer money and to accept their fiduciary obligation. Their attempt to treat employee benefits as a right is irresponsible. Those voting may be willing to accept higher property taxes and an increase in the cities future unfunded liabilities and if so then so be it. This is just one of many ways in which the city leaders spend money frivolously on personal or special interest issues.

BravO

Q To make proper use of something that has been designed, we have to know how it works. That means knowing how each feature contributes to the fulfillment of its functions. In the body, the heart is for pumping blood; each valve, nerve, chamber and vessel does its part to move the blood along. Every doctor understands this: no sensible surgeon tries to make the heart pump air instead of blood. The reason is simple: when you thwart a thing’s design, it no longer does what it is supposed to do. It either works badly, stops working, or breaks. Something goes terribly wrong.

“These things can be observed, and so become another source of moral knowledge. Because every part of us has meaning, our very bodies have a language of their own; they say things by what we do with them. Bone speaks to bone, organ to organ, skin to skin. A smile means something friendly; you cannot give that meaning to a slap in the face. You can use a kiss to betray, but only because the kiss, in itself, means something else. Conjugal sex means self- giving, making one flesh out of two. By contrast, when a man puts the part of himself which represents new life into the cavity of another man which represents decay and expulsion, at the most basic of all possible levels he is saying ‘Life, be swallowed in death.’ We cannot overwrite such meanings with different ones just because we want to.

“Design is obvious not just in our bodies but across the whole range of human powers and capacities. The function of fear is to warn; of minds, to deliberate and know; of anger, to prepare for the protection of endangered goods. Everything in us has a purpose; everything is for something. A power is well-used when it is used for that purpose and according to that design. Thus the virtue of courage is not being fearless, but fearing rightly: For the right reasons, in the right way, and to the right degree, neither more nor differently.

Sodomites shake their fist not only at God but at the very design of their Bodies. As Dostoevsky stated, "IF God does not exist, all things are permissible." Of course He does exist and He has given us consciouses. Sodomites and Lesbians have suppressed what they KNOW, what they Can't Not Know. Sad to think a human being actually defines himself - or herself with a deviant sexual label. How far we've sunk, especially in this nation to accept what God calls evil.

Gaus....a question, do you not teach your children to have good judgement? This "don't judge thing" is a recent development in the ever evolving decline driven by the left. I hear kids say all the time......"don't judge". I always advise them, if you set high standards for yourself then you will have to make decisions, JUDGEMENTS, about the people you are friends with and who you hang out with. As a teen and of course stud high school athlete I chose not to be friends with the loser pot heads and groups that were always in trouble with the law. I exercised sound JUDGEMENT based on the way my parents raised me and the teachings from our church. Gaus judging others is not in violation of Christian teachings......Jesus told the prostitute "go and sin no more". There is judgement there, the door to salvation is always open and you do not have to accept behaviors that you do not agree with. You place "judgement" on that behavior or person and decide to move yourself and your life in a different behavior. If you do not exercise sound moral judgement and common sense in your life more than likely you are a wacked out anything goes Democrat like Barry The Welfare Genie and Gay Democrat Mayor Andy Burke....not that, according to some, there is anything wrong with that. Ok, off to judge others and make money! :)$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$MERRY CHRISTMAS Y'ALL!

It never fails. Whenever some conservative takes a stand on a moral issue, some liberal somewhere will indignantly claim, “You can’t legislate morality!” How many times have you heard that worn-out phrase? Incredibly, it’s not even true. As the Apostle Paul declared in 2Cor. 10:5, Christians must “demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God.” It’s time we demolish the pretension, “You can’t legislate morality.”

Morality is about right and wrong, and that’s what laws put into legal form. Can you think of one law which doesn’t declare one behavior right and its opposite wrong? The truth is all laws legislate morality (even speed limits imply a moral right to life). And everyone in politics — conservatives, libertarians and liberals — is trying to legislate morality. The only question is: “Whose morality should be legislated?”

Nowhere does Scripture say that to know all is to forgive all. Rather it says that on the Day of Wrath, everything secret will be known and everything in darkness will come to light. Nevertheless, Christians get pulled into absolutionism by all sorts of ropes. Ours is a God of mercy. Yes, but He is also a God of judgment. These two qualities are united by the atoning sacrifice of Christ, of which we cannot avail ourselves unless we repent. Christ has commanded us not to judge. Yes, but we are not commanded not to judge acts; we are only commanded not to judge souls. We know which acts are wrong because He has told us; we don't know which souls will repent because He hasn't.

A) You have a low-level reading comprehension and you think that this study says 47% of homosexual men molest a child (which that study does not say).

Or

B) You are trying to hood-wink low-level readers (ie Caddy, Conservative, etc.) into believing that 47% of homosexual couples molest their children, by throwing a bunch of figures around.

But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge. There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

James 4:12 There is only one lawgiver and judge, he who is able to save and to destroy. But who are you to judge your neighbor?

If you are trying to direct this at me, you are wrong on all counts.

And yes... Plain Truth is a liar.

The UAW did deceive and has made it very difficult for folks to retrieve their cards. Much more difficult than it was to sign them.

Tifosi & Gaus you must both be disability scammers or just plain slackers cause neither of you have worked a lick all day and Tifany that RIGHT judgement verse is right on target. How about Barry The Welfare Genie taking a selfie with the Queen of Denmark at Mandella's party/funeral . From the look of the pic Lady Michelle Big Bootie Obama was not pleased.

I worked a nine hour day Maximus. Of course, I wasn't as busy as you. Life must be hard for ole Maxi; checking your stocks, counting your stacks of money, taking dumps on your gold-plated throne, drinking Cristal out of the water cooler, thousand-dollar-a-plate lunch, private jet for important business trip, etc., etc.

MMMMMMMaxifraud. You can change names but you can't change writing styles. There is, as in all good lies, just enough truth mixed into his story to make it sound plausible. One thing is a big fer sure good buddy, you've taken crass to a whole new level. You ought to get a talk show.

Very gay Tiffany very, very gay. You should call the sheriff over in Cleveland maybe he will meet you at the storage unit. Gypsy my dear Mother would always make sure our doors were locked when the Gypsy's came to town with the carnival or what not. Mostly ne'er-do-wells, Gypsy's have a reputation for stealing. And Gaus I'm not that big on Cristal, but I do have a NetJets Card. It's the only way to fly believe me. Fam and I going on an Aspen trip soon!

Funny how no Democrats, including Clay The Victimized Lower Alabama Military Brat are commenting on or trying to defend the total Cluster Furck that is Obamacare! Obamers finest hour has turned into a complete and utter joke. Democrats can talk a good game but in the end they can't deliver the goods. As they say in Texas all hat and no cattle!

GaussianInteger, Look a little closer. Look and look again. The homosexual agenda. The spin You put on my cited study is flawed in light of the agenda. Now, tell me, what kind of spin can You think up for the study below, which You ignored?

The Most Loathsome of All Categories of Humans Attracted to Children Is The Homosexual Population: "The evidence indicates that homosexual men molest boys at rates grossly disproportionate to the rates at which heterosexual men molest girls." [(Blanchard et al.,1999]

There comes a time when Christians must remember and obey these words of Jesus Christ: And whoever will not receive you nor hear your words, when you depart from that house or city, shake off the dust from your feet. Assuredly, I say to you, it will be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrah in the day of judgment than for that city! (Matthew 10:14-15) As one of God's servants I truly believe it's time to shake the dust from our feet. The fools will not see the truth. There is nothing more we can say or do to help them.

How is it that "Chief" Wes Snyder can resign and collect retirement for all his years of "service" to Cleveland? The city council(&city manager too) APPLAUD him and send him off with best wishes and high regards? Seriously? Is ANYBODY awake in Cleveland? Can ANYONE else FINISH cleaning house? Perhaps a new city manager & council won't tolerate his legacy of ....corruption and shame
