Atlanta mother, daughter found dead after standoff

ATLANTA — Atlanta police say a woman and child were found dead inside a home after the woman’s new husband surrendered to police following a standoff.

Police said 32-year-old Joseph Rennato Smith was arrested following negotiations at his family’s home. Police said his wife of about a month, 34-year-old Shatikey Griffin, and her 12-year-old daughter were found dead in the home. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution (bit.ly/Sej45U) reports the victims were identified by Griffin’s father, Thaddeus Griffin.

Police in East Point said they are investigating whether Smith is connected to the death of 36-year-old Loveitt Wallace. Her body was found in a room at the Wellesley Inn on Sunday morning.

Thaddeus Griffin said Smith did not show up for a family gathering Saturday night and they didn’t know where he was until the standoff.
