The Signal Mountain Genealogical Society and Delta Genealogical Society are sponsoring a genealogy workshop at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Oak Street Center of First-Centenary United Methodist Church, 399 McCallie Ave.
Two topics for novices and two topics for seasoned genealogists will be offered in morning sessions. They are "Building Your Family Tree from Scratch," "Searching Census Records Effectively," "Using History to Flavor Your Family Stories" and "The Use of DNA in Enhancing Genealogical Research."
Acclaimed genealogist and historian, Dr. George Schweitzer, will speak following lunch. Dr. Schweitzer blends humor and historical reenactment to teach genealogy.
Dr. Schweitzer is Alumni Distinguished Professor at the University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He has authored 220 publications, including 19 genealogical guidebooks, and lectured to more than 200 genealogical and historical societies in the United States, Canada, England and Germany.
