about Clay Bennett...

The son of a career army officer, Bennett led a nomadic life, attending ten different schools before graduating in 1980 from the University of North Alabama with degrees in Art and History. After brief stints as a staff artist at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and the Fayetteville (NC) Times, he went on to serve as the editorial cartoonist for the St. Petersburg Times (1981-1994) and The Christian Science Monitor (1997-2007), before joining the staff of the ...

Even Leno ripped him on this subject in tonight's monologue. Good one, Clay, and right on target.

Can anyone tell me what the Republicans plan to DO if Romney is elected to the presidency?

I hear a lot of "vote for me and I will fix the economy" and "the failed Obama presidency" talk but not much DETAIL about steps to take to fix things. This is reminiscent of a prior president's "secret plan to end the war" [in Vietnam].

The Ryan (now Ryan-Romney) budget suggests cuts will be made to reduce the deficit but no specific cuts are mentioned.

Gov. Romney has a track record in business but I am not sure it translates to driving the US economy. He made a great deal of his money at Bain Capital by buying up shaky companies and squeezing them either back into shape or into oblivion. Outsourcing jobs overseas may reduce your new company's bottom line but what do we send overseas? Alabama? Connecticut? Utah?

The devil is indeed in the details.

There's just no other way to put it; Romney isn't well-liked by the populace. The headline tells it all: Mitt Romney is the least popular presidential nominee in three decades

Specifically, his favorable rating is 40% and his unfavorable rating is 48%, giving him an eight point deficit.

By way of contrast, Obama's favorable rating is 54% and his unfavorable rating is 43%, giving him a surplus of 11%.

Thus, Obama has a 19 point advantage over Romney in the very important favorable/unfavorable ratings metric.

LIBERALISM IS A MENTAL ILLNESS. This is how brain damaged you liberals really are. On the one hand, we have a C student, a person with a questionable background of associating with known communists and socialists, whose only after college experience had been as a political organizer, and politician. He and his wife always on the public dole. Comes out of nowhere to become a senator, and then wins the presidency. After which he runs up the same deficit amount as that idiot Bush in half the time. Lastly, he is the biggest liar, including Nixon, who has ever been in the office. Furthermore, his economic plans consist of "spend more money." Absolutely no executive experience.

Compared to Romney, a person one generation away from being poor, whose father made a fortune that enabled Mitt to be highly educated and motivated. His father's success enabled him to go to expensive private schools from the 7th grade on. Hasn't Obama's "success" (celebrity) resulted in his children going to private schools?

Here is the truth from a CBS News article,

"Mitt Romney went on to Brigham Young University, Harvard University and success in the private equity world; the Romney campaign estimates Romney's net worth as between $190 and $250 million, though outside estimates have suggested it may be anywhere from $200 million to more than $500 million......"

George Romney, Mitt's father donated his entire inheritance to Brigham Young, and so Mitt did not inherit the silver spoon or money from his parents. George Romney did provide a loan for Romney to buy his first home. (So did my parents.)

Now, who would you rather your kids emulate? This mediocre social engineer who never produced one idea, product, or job ever or a person who has been smart enough, GET THAT..SMART ENOUGH, to build a personal fortune making better for his kids.

As far as money goes, George Washington was the richest ever. Was he OK? What about the democrat icons like John Kennedy, Rossevelt, Ted Kennedy, Barack Obama, and all these Hollywood types? Is their money "dirty?" Again, Bennett and the rest of you commies have selective outrage.

That is how it works. I work and build and my children can build on what I have built and so on and so on. This delusion by liberals that we all have the same ability to succeed if they could only get the chance is HOGWASH. without the job producers and people who take risks this country would be nothing.

There could be no more stark choice between two philosophies. Liberal social justice, decline, and debt or responsible debt reduction and a CEO (president) with PROVEN abilities.

Yea, we peons will vote for Mitt Romney if we know what's good for us. Nothing could be worse than Obama. He is an insult to anyone that is successful that has followed the rules.

Is he my first choice? No. Is he the only choice now? Yes.

You cannot legislate fairness and tolerance and only a fool thinks the government can. You want Obastard to confiscate money from the people because in your twisted mind you think he is better suited to distribute it to the people who need it than private citizens. Did it ever occur to you that Obastard will only distribute the money he has confiscated after he and his Communist cronies take their cut? It is also pathetic you pull out the Bible when you need it but have no problem supporting the murder of babies. You are just another pathetic, hypocritical, lying liberal. Before you start attacking my spirituality take note that I have never quoted Bible passages.

If obastard was serious about raising taxes on the wealthy why did he not do it when he had total control of the House, Senate and white House? Why did he extend President Bush's tax cuts? All obastard is doing is creating class warfare and spreading hate. If he thinks he and the wealthy do not pay enough taxes then why do all the Democrats take advantage of all the deductions they can to cut their own tax bills? He is lying to you and you are a fool for believing him after all his lies and failures.

Presidential candidate Mitt Romney gave more than 16% of his income to charity last year. A few years back, Barack and Michelle Obama gave less than 1% of theirs. Aren't Republicans supposed to be the heartless ones?

According to their tax returns, the Obamas gave to charitable causes just $10,772 of the $1.2 million they earned from 2000 through 2004. In 2005 and 2006, they boosted their giving a bit to 5%.

How about Vice President Joe Biden? Surely he could top the Obamas and save some face for the party that purports to be all about helping the poor. But no.

Biden and his wife gave an average of $369 a year to charity for the decade preceding his vice presidency, according to USA Today. That amounted to 0.3% of their income. They haven't been much more generous since Biden became veep. In 2010, they gave $5,350, or roughly 1.4%.

Maybe the Clintons, the last Democrats to hold the White House before the Obamas, can save the party's reputation. From 2000 to 2006, their donations averaged 8.26% of income, from a low of 1.21% in 2002 to a high of 12.57% two years later, says the Tax Foundation.

Better, but not exactly Romney territory. The former Massachusetts governor gave 13.73% of his income to charity in 2010 and an estimated 19.14% last year.

Romney's top opponent in the GOP primaries

Of course when Democrats talk about helping the poor, they don't mean with their own money. They mean using other people's money. Especially money from rich businessmen such as Romney.

Who are the greediest the majority of Republicans make their fortunes through honest work and support policies that let Americans keep more of what is theirs or the Democrats who grab, snatch, claw and bite for every dollar they can rake out of the taxpayers?

Why don't I like Governor Romney? Romneycare and lies. He wants power--he defended Romneycare on Hannity--and I haven't heard of him objecting to his millionaire friends peddling distortions about Gingrich and Santorum to give him power. So I may vote for the Libertarian or Constitution party nominee, though if the laws let us vote "against" a candidate with "against" votes to be subtracted from "for" votes, I might vote "against" President Obama for reasons Mr (?) Jones has rather nastily articulated above. (Did he mention young Obama ate dog meat and our President joined a lynch mob against George Zimmerman?)

I think Gov. Romney has set forth a 59-point plan which ought to include some details, I suppose, if someone will read it to find out what's in it. Bain Capital probably improved businesses overall though with some losers as well as some winners. Most of Gov. Romney's flipflops have been improvements; he'd do well to throw Romneycare and the book of Mormon under the bus. So I don't think vagueness or Bain or flipflops are valid complaints; but O'Romneycare and bearing false witness (and worshiping a fantasy novel, which shows poor judgment) are.

O'Romneycare shows loathsome paternalism, which we peons rightly dislike in Democrats and Republicans alike.

Soros, would love to destroy this country. If given the chance he will do to the dollar what e did to the British pound.

“He famously shorted the British pound in 1992, wagering $10 billion on a drop in its value. In a desperate bid to keep its currency afloat, the Bank of England tried to buy up pounds as fast as Soros could dump them. However, as more and more investors followed Soros’ lead and joined his efforts, the Bank of England eventually gave up. The British pound was devalued, launching a tsunami of financial turmoil from Tokyo to Rome. When it was over, millions of hardworking Britons confronted their diminished savings, while Soros counted his gains. He had personally made nearly $2 billion on the catastrophe,” (The Shadow Party, pg. 4).

Soros has said of this event: “I had no platform, so I deliberately [did] the sterling thing to create a platform. Obviously people care about the man who made a lot of money…my influence has continued to grow and I do have access to,” (Time Magazine, Sept 1, 1997)

Soros says the following about himself, but this could easily be about Obama as well.

“I admit that I have always harbored an exaggerated view of my self-importance—to put it bluntly, I fancied myself as some kind of god or an economic reformer like Keynes (each with his General Theory) or, even better, a scientist like Einstein (reflexivity sounds like relativity).” (The Alchemy of Finance, George Soros)

Timbo, you are so FOS I can smell your stench from here, all the way through cyber space. First off, anyone who says that "liberalism is a disease," like you always do (borrowing from your talking head gurus Limbaugh and Michael Savage and other of the fathead rightwing pundits), shows that you are incapable of any serious thought. I'm very liberal in my views but I have nonetheless respected conservatism in politics - at least until it got hi-jacked by the teaparty wingnuts and sold its soul to them. Conservatives actually used to make some sense and had brought some thoughtful dialogue to the table but not any more. They (you) are only intent now on tearing down and calling everything you don't agree with socialistic and evil. Liberals today are not trying to further any communist or marxist agenda; we are only trying to maintain a semblance of fairness and decency by keeping you right wing rads from destroying everything that has been useful and good and worthwhile, like Medicare, Social Security, women's rights, to name a few. Hell, we are not even trying to take away everyone's guns, as you conservatives always claim; we are just trying to keep the gun nuts from taking us back to the Wild West when all differences were settled by a bullet.

As for your 8:43 am post... what a load of crap. You have informed us many times in the past, ad nauseum, that you run your own company, and you strut your stuff like a damn peacock. You seem to think that anybody who doesn't run his own business or work 70 hours a week is somehow lazy, stupid, lacking ambition, and un-American. What you say about the "the common man" is very telling about your character. Do you think that your employees who work ONLY 40 hours a week for you are just lazy common people living "mediocre, common lives?" Or does everyone at your company gladly work 60 and 70 hours a week for you and then lick your boots before they go home?

In case you haven't observed human nature closely enough (and obviosly you haven't), people everywhere are different. Just because you choose to run your own business, that doesn't mean that every other person is supposed to. Money and prestige and status are more important to some than to others. Many people just want to live comfortably and spend quality time with family, not working 60 or 70 hours a week. That is what the American Dream was all about: being able to have a home and a financial safety net and to enjoy the fruits of our labors without working our fingers to the bone.

You are so full of yourself that you can't see the forest for the trees. Go back to work and put in your 70 hours or whatever. But let me just say before I go, oh lord and master...thank you for "providing jobs, inventions, and money" so that common men like me can live our "mediocre, common lives." May I kiss your hand before leaving, your highness?

Your opposition to consumer protections and regulations of the financial industry.

Your Swiss and Cayman Island bank accounts. Who wants the kind of President who willingly undermines his own country and opts to invest his money in other countries? I don't.

Your willingness to lie and flip flop on any given issue on any given day.

Your indifference to the health care crisis that America faces on a daily basis.

The Kochs are the oil and gas industry's biggest donors to the congressional committee with oversight of the hazardous Keystone XL oil pipeline. They and their employees gave more than $300,000 to members of the House Energy and Commerce Committee in 2010 alone.

From 1998-2008, Koch-controlled foundations gave more than $196 to organizations that favor polices that would financially enrich the two brothers. In addition, Koch Industries spent $50 million on lobbying and some $8 million in PAC contributions.

The Koch fortune has its origins in engineering contracts with Joseph Stalin’s Soviet Union.

A Huffington Post source who was at a three-day retreat of conservative billionaires said the Koch brothers pledged to donate $60 million to defeat President Obama in 2012 and produce pledges of $40 million more from others at the retreat.

Since 2000, the Kochs have collected almost $100 million in government contracts, mostly from the Department of Defense.

Koch Industries has an annual production capacity of 2.2 billion pounds of the carcinogen formaldehyde. The company has worked to keep it from being classified as a carcinogen even though David Koch is a prostate cancer survivor.

The Senate Select Committee on Indian Affairs accused Koch Oil of scheming to steal $31 million of crude oil from Native Americans. Although the company claimed it was accidental, a former executive in this operation said Charles Koch had known about it and had responded to the overages by saying, “I want my fair share, and that’s all of it.”

Here are some important numbers:

In the most recent Washington Post-ABC News national poll, 56 percent of people said they had a favorable opinion of Obama while just 35 percent of people said the same of former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney. In the new NBC-Wall Street Journal survey, 48 percent said they felt positively toward Obama compared to 33 percent who said that of Romney.

Conservatards don't even like their own candidate. Is Romney supposed to be the best candidate to beat Obama in the fall? Hardly, they're both cut from the same liberal mold.

Mitt Romney is a locust capitalist. He's made his money eating his fill of the labor of others, no it building on house own, and he expects us to want him to run the country?

Why, is he going to sell off a state or something? That is the model he's shown. There's a reason he has to lie about what he has done. The reality isn't so good. And his charitable deductions are straight to his church, which strangely concerns itself with important political agendas like defining marriage in a discriminatory way. I don't know about you, but I can't consider that to be virtuous.

Actually, the fact that you righties are totally unaware of the process explains why we have a buyout specialist running for Office under the Republican ticket. Well, actually, I can't say totally unaware, he does remain incredibly unpopular for a nominee.

So some of you apparently don't like him, for some reason.

But it seems that you, JonRoss, can't admit that what Romney did cost thousands of jobs, in the US, and shipped them off to China, and left the government bailing out pension funds and trying to help laid-off workers.

If Mitt Romney released the actual records of his business deals, you'd see the pattern more clearly. But we can't even see his tax returns, can we?

Oh well, at least we know Mitt Romney learned something from his father. How to shutdown factories. Must be where he got his taste for firing people.
