Ethel Fritts

Ethel Mae Fritts, 84, of Soddy-Daisy, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 13, 2010, in an area health care facility.

Mrs. Fritts was a member of Green Pond Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her son, Stanley Eugene Fritts.

Survivors include her husband, James H. Fritts of Soddy-Daisy; son, Jerry (Pat) Fritts, of Hixson; sisters, Mable Sells and Frankie King, both of Soddy-Daisy; and grandson, Jason (Lauren) Fritts, of Red Bank.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2010, at Green Pond Baptist Church with Dr. Clankston Freeman officiating.

Interment will follow in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends from 1-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today, March 14, at the funeral home.

Hazel Griffith

Hazel Jewell Golston Griffith went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, March 12, 2010.

She was born Jan. 2, 1929. A lifelong resident of the East Ridge community, she was an active member of her church, Spring Creek Road Baptist Church, where she and her husband James M. Griffith had loved and served the Lord since their marriage in 1951. She was a strong supporter of the Women on Mission, having participated in its foreign and home missions efforts throughout her life. She taught the Fidelis Ladies Sunday School Class, formerly directed a fifth-grade Sunday school class and planned and led Girls Auxiliary missions programs in her church. She had numerous and dear beloved friends among her church family throughout her life and has now joined many of them in Heaven. She was a graduate of Grundy County High School and attended her yearly class reunions and kept in touch with her classmates living throughout the nation until her death. She co-started the first Brownie and Girl Scouts Troup 714 in the East Ridge area in 1964 and served as its co-leader providing many girls with a strong example of character development and service to people, community and the Lord. She held office in the former Anna B. Lacy Elementary School and East Ridge upper school's PTA programs during her daughters' years of education there and through their college years. She worked in the china and crystal department of Miller's Eastgate Department Store for several years, where she had many good friends and co-workers and enjoyed helping brides choose their china and silver patterns for their upcoming weddings.

She enjoyed life as a homemaker and was admired for her culinary skills and her original designs as a seamstress for her daughters. She was one of nine children of Thomas A. and LuTisha Golston of Grundy County, Tenn.

She was preceded in death by her much beloved husband, James M. Griffith; also Ralph (Betty) Golston, of Palmer, Thomas (Josie) Golston, Marie (J.D.) Rankin, of Whitwell, Tenn., Lucille Kirkpatrick (Forest), of Chattanooga, and Launa Caldwell (Roy), of Rock Island, Ill.

She is survived by her two daughters, Jamie Eileen Griffith and Wendy Diane Griffith, both of Chattanooga; James (Ruth) Golston, Peggy (the Rev. Harold) Buck, and Bill (JoAnn Golston), all of Chattanooga; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and cousins-in-laws all of whom she loved and enjoyed.

Thank you Lord Jesus for receiving our mother sweetly, gently home. May she be a "jewel" in your crown as she was in our lives.

A celebration service of her home going will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel. Friends and family will be received at 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Pallbearers will be her nephews and honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Spring Road Baptist Church.

Officiating the service will be the Rev. Harold Buck and the Rev. James Julian.

Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens.

Clatice Hill

Clatice Jones Hill, 88, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010.

She was employed by Mueller Co. over 38 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Orla Hill Jr.; and daughter Sherrie H. Dedmon.

Surviving is a grandson, Stephen M. Dedmon, Birmingham, Ala.; granddaughter, Elizabeth D. Grigsby, Hendersonville, Tenn.; great-granddaughter Emily Dedmon and great-grandson, Samuel Dedmon, Birmingham, Ala.; great-grandson, Fletcher Grigsby, Hendersonville, Tenn.; one sister, Betty J. Ridge, Chattanooga.

Graveside service will be held at Forest Hill Cemetery at 2 p.m. Monday with the Rev. Roger Kittle officiating.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that any donations be made to the benevolence ministry at St. Elmo Baptist Church, where Mrs. Hill was a member for many years.

Bernard Hubbard

Bernard W. Hubbard, 92, of Chattanooga, passed from this life on Friday, March 12, 2010.

He was the son of the late Edward C. and Flora Hubbard of Geraldine, Ala.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II with the 3rd Battalion 135th Infantry and was the recipient of the Bronze Star. He was a member of VFW Post 1289 and the American Legion.

Bernard was a member of Terra Vista Baptist Church and retired from DuPont.

He was an avid woodworker and gardener. He especially enjoyed his flowers and bird watching.

He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 68 years, Velma Gilbert Hubbard in 2007; his beloved granddaughter, Cathia Mooney Strickland Mattingly; son-in-law, Gene Mooney; and sisters, Edna, Ruth, Phyllis and Helen.

Survivors are four children, Joyce Mooney, Geraldine, Ala., Jim Hubbard, Chattanooga, Elaine Tate, Chattanooga, and Donna (Bob) Davis, Ooltewah; six grandchildren, Cristia Mooney Jolley, Kim Hubbard, Jamey Hubbard, Bill Tate Jr., John Tate and Rick Tate; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Gaynelle (Charles) Wigley, Chattanooga, and brother, Edward C. (Helen) Hubbard Jr., Oxford, Ala.

Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Monday, March 15, at the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Walter Cross officiating.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Bill Tate Jr., John Tate, Rick Tate, Jamey Hubbard, and great-grandsons, Ben and Dan Strickland and Lee Jolley.

Burial will be at Hamilton Memorial Gardens with military honors.

James Jackson

James Lee Jackson, 54, passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, at a local hospital.

Harold Johns

Harold E. Johns, 78, a lifelong resident of Chattanooga, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, March 11, 2010.

He was the son of the late Howell Johns Sr. and Bertie Glover Johns and also was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Nell Eaves Johns.

Harold grew up in the Kingspoint area of Chattanooga and graduated from Tyner High School in 1950. He served his country with the U.S. Army in Korea during that conflict and upon returning home he worked at DuPont where he retired after 40-plus years.

He served his family, church, country and community with much dedication and helped to influence the lives of many people in the Chattanooga area. He will be greatly missed but is at home with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Praise be to God.

He was a member of Duncan Park Baptist Church and the Men's Sunday School Class.

Survivors include his son, Shawn E. Johns; three sisters, Anna (Raymond) Bowman, of Ooltewah, Betty Burrows, of Hixson, Joy (Fred) Gaston, of East Ridge; two brothers, Franklin (Brenda) Johns, of Apison, Sonny Johns, of Chattanooga; three sisters-in-law, Anna Klein, of Chattanooga, Judy Cocoris, of California, Betty Jo Smith, of Chattanooga; brother-in-law, George Eaves, of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. today in the Valley View Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home with the Rev. Jeff Jackson and the Rev. Bill Gustafson officiating.

Interment will be in Tyner Cemetery.

Alberta Krupp

Alberta E. Krupp, 91, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, at the Health Center at Standifer Place.

She was preceded in death by her brother, LeRoy Kinzel.

She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Roy E. Krupp, two sons and daughters-in-law, Don R. (Donna) Krupp, of Chattanooga, Dennis R. (Vicki) Krupp, of Kansas City, Mo.; six grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Monday at St. Stephen Catholic Church with the Rev. Gilbert Diaz officiating.

Philip Long

Philip Randall Long, 60, of Red Bank, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, March 12, 2010, at his home.

He was a 1967 graduate of Red Bank High School. He played the trumpet for the Pride of the Southland Marching Band for his revered Tennessee Vols. Philip followed in his father's footsteps and joined the United States Marine Corps and served In Vietnam. Philip was a lifelong musician, enjoying playing and listening to bluegrass, his passion. He enjoyed walking and exercising and was known to walk several miles a day. Philip was a proud father and grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his father, John Lewis Long.

Survivors include his mother, Irene Cooper Long; son, John (Cherie) Long; granddaughters, Morgan and Maddie Long; brothers, Jon (Becky) Bodkin, Steve (Lezlie) Long, Owen (Pam) Long; several nieces and nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March, 15, 2010, at the North Chapel with the Rev. Ed Malone officiating.

Interment will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.

Bobbie Sharp

Bobbie Joyce Sharp, 75, went home to be with Lord at her home in the River Canyon Road community on Friday, March 12, 2010.

She was a member of Suck Creek Baptist Church.

The daughter of the late Bert and Nora McNabb, she was also preceded in death by a son, Gary Lee Sharp.

Bobbie is survived by her husband of 59 years, Benny Sharp; children, Jerry W. Sharp, Susan (D.L.) McNabb, and Tammy (Danny) Holmes; grandchildren, Stacy Sharp, Jason (Kendra) Sharp, Nikki (Danny) Hughes, Hunter and Hannah Holmes; great-grandchildren, Grayson and Garrett Sharp, and Natalee Hughes; and brother, Billy Ray McNabb.

Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel at noon CDT on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, with Brother Randy Chesnutt and Brother Doug Tate officiating.

Harvey White

Harvey E. White, 94, of Chattanooga, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010, in a local hospital.

A native of Hardin County, Tenn., he has been a resident of the Chattanooga area for the past 65 years. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the 103rd Infantry Division of the U.S. Army and was a member of Hickory Valley Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife, Edith White; daughter and her husband, Judie and Michael Harper, Chattanooga; son and his wife, Paul and Jackie White; two grandchildren, Paul and Michelle Harper; three great-grandchildren; sister, Mary McCasland, Savannah, Tenn.; several nieces and nephews.

Howard Young

Howard Young, 84, of Red Bank, died Saturday, March 13, 2010.

He was a member of Spring Creek Road Baptist Church. Mr. Young led choirs in several local churches over the years. He was employed with Stamps Baxter Music Co. for 17 years and later retired from Bowman Transportation.

The son of the late David and Virgie Young, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Betty Carr Young; and brother, Clifford Young.

Survivors include his daughter, Joy (Guy) Kirby, Ringgold, Ga.; son, Barry Young, Red Bank; grandson, Gavin; sisters, Alma Abee, Hickory, N.C., Beatrice (Amos) Lingerfelt, Icard, N.C.; brother, David (Paulette) Young, Hildebran, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

PIKEVILLE -- Richard P. "Ricky" Brown, 47, died Saturday, March 13, 2010.

He was a member of the Pikeville Church of God, was employed at Sequachee Valley Electric Co. and was member of St. Elmo Lodge #437 F&AM.

His grandparents, Clinton Brown and Clarence and Jewel Perry, preceded him in death.

Survived by sons, Seth, Chase and Drake Brown; parents Richard "Dick" and Judy Brown; sister Gina (David) Boynton; brother Perry Brown; and grandmother Mauvine Brown, all of Pikeville.

Dall Brown

JASPER -- Dallas Berry "Dall" Brown, 88, died Thursday, March 11, 2010, in a local hospital.

He was a lifelong member of McKendree United Methodist Church, where he served as a teacher for many years and past superintendent of Sunday schools. He served on various local committees including the Marion County Planning Commission and the Jasper Water Board. Mr. Brown was a former graduate, teacher and athletic coach at Marion County High School and former principal of Jasper Elementary School.

He was a graduate of Tennessee Technological University where he played football and baseball and received a degree in accounting in 1943. He later did post-graduate work at Peabody College in Nashville. Mr. Brown served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was stationed at Pearl Harbor. He owned and operated Brown Hardware Co. in Jasper for many years and was also a member of Olive Branch Lodge #297 F&AM and the York Rite Bodies.

Mr. Brown is preceded in death by his parents, N.H. and Veda Berry Brown; sister, Harold Brown Price; and brothers, Holland Brown and Kenneth P. Brown.

Mr. Brown is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty Flowers Brown; son and daughter-in-law, Rusty and Anne Brown, of Jasper; son, Jeff Brown, of Chattanooga; sisters, Lila Cureton, of Jasper, Suzy Raulston, of Nashville, and Carolyn Thompson, of Jasper; grandchildren, Andy Brown and Holly Brown; great-granddaughter, Dixie Elizabeth Brown; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends for visitation at McKendree United Methodist Church, 106 Highway 150 in Jasper, Tenn., from 10 a.m. CDT until service time on Monday, March 15, 2010.

Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 1 p.m. CDT on Monday, March 15, 2010, at McKendree United Methodist Church with the Rev. Ron Ramsey officiating.

Robert Clark

ROSSVILLE -- Robert Pierce Clark, 76, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010.

He was born in Benton, Tenn., to the late Luther Thomas and Margaret Clark but had lived in the North Georgia area for most of his life. He was a Navy veteran, having served during the Korean War and was a member of Cloud Springs Baptist Church. He retired from Synthetic Industries in 2001 after more than 20 years of service as an industrial engineer.

He was a loving husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and Cecil Clark.

Survivors include his loving wife of more than 46 years, Mary Ellen Corfitzson Clark, of Rossville; two daughters and son-in-law, Debbie Clark Evans, of Cleveland, Tenn., and Traci Clark and Dale Hair, of Columbia, S.C.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Debra Clark, of Rossville, and Robert and Lisa Clark, of Chattanooga; five brothers, Tom Clark, of Anderson, S.C., Edward Clark, of Germantown, Tenn., James W. Clark, of Etowah, Tenn., George Clark, of North Stonington, Conn., and Jerry Clark, of Kings Mountain, N.C.; sister, Joyce Borden, of Etowah, Tenn.; six grandchildren, Madalyn Hair and Joseph, Robby, T.C., Micheal and Christopher Clark; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with Pastor Matt Hall officiating.

Entombment will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in the Lakewood South Mausoleum.

ROSSVILLE -- Ora Allie Ellis, 96, of Rossville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, March 12, 2010.

She was a member of Memorial Baptist Tabernacle. Mrs. Ellis was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Queen Thompson; husband, John Ellis; son, Glenn Ellis; granddaughter, Regina Ellis; and grandson, Glen Lamar Ellis.

Survivors are daughters, Flaudia Price, Yvonne (Mark) Mayfield and Jo-Ann (William R.) Quarles; six grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be noon Monday in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Gurney Beard officiating.

Robert Emerling

ROSSVILLE -- Robert Leonard Emerling, 85, of Tullahoma, Tenn., died peacefully at his residence on Saturday, March 13, 2010, after a brief illness.

He was a former resident of Rossville, but had lived in the Tullahoma area for the last nine years. Mr. Emerling was a Navy veteran and served his country during World War II aboard the USS Eurayle. He loved to entertain all who would listen to his tales of adventure as a sailor. Later he was employed as a truck driver with Transus Inc., formerly Georgia Highway Express from which he retired in 1988. He enjoyed fishing, a hobby that gave him quite a collection of humorous stories of his exploits to share -- stories often involving his fishing buddy, Frank Steelman. Gardening was another hobby that gave him hours of pleasure. He raised beautiful violets, orchids and other exotic plants in his own greenhouse. It pleased him greatly to share the fruits of his labors with friends, neighbors and family. As a boy of nine or ten, he gave his life to Jesus Christ at First Baptist Church of Hixson and was baptized in Hixson Creek. In his later years, he attended First Presbyterian Church in Fort Oglethorpe and most recently attended Grace Baptist Church in Tullahoma.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Ruth Goins Emerling; and two sisters, Louise Diehl and Marie Phillips.

Survivors include two sons, James "Bo" Emerling, of Chattanooga, and Bobby Emerling, of Rossville; two sisters, Mabel Combs, of Hixson, and Willie Humphreys, of Chattanooga; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He is also survived by his wife, Jean Potter Emerling, of Tullahoma; three stepchildren and their children, all of whom loved him very much.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 16, 2010, in the Fort Oglethorpe Chapel with the Rev. Billy Woodard and the Rev. Garry Irvin, of Tullahoma officiating.

Burial will follow in the Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

The family will begin receiving friends after 2 p.m. today, all day Monday and prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Ralph Flegal

TUNNEL HILL -- Ralph Eugene Flegal III, 68, passed away Saturday March 13, 2010, at his residence.

A resident of the Rossville and Ringgold, Ga., areas for most of his life, he was a former employee of Sherman and Riley, where he worked for over 10 years. He was of the Methodist faith.

He is preceded in death by his parents; Ralph Flegal Jr. and Constance Imogene Engram Flegal.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Jean Young Flegal, of Tunnel Hill; three children, Gene Flegal, of Tunnel Hill, Connie Flegal, of Chickamauga, Ga., and Kevin Flegal, of Tunnel Hill; two special sisters, Retta Brown (William), of Lawrenceville, Ga., and Nita Miller, of Rome, Ga.; six grandchildren, Courtney Nunley, Tiffany Lankford, William Flegal, Ashley Bowman, Skylar Flegal and Whitney Stinson; 12 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Monday in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow at Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends today from 5-9 p.m., and Monday from 8 a.m. until funeral time at the funeral home.

Marie Humphreys

DALTON -- Marie Akin Humphreys, 104, died Saturday, March 13, 2010.

She was born Jan. 24, 1906, in Graysville, Ga., daughter of Lewis Cantrell and Sarah Katherine Akin.

After the death of her parents in 1914, Marie and her sisters relocated to Chattanooga.

Marie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga and taught Bible in public schools for many years under the leadership of Dr. Park McCallie. Marie and husband, Harold, were an integral part of John Chambliss' Reflection Riding in Chattanooga. Harold was one of the original founders of Reflection Riding in 1956 and served on the board for 17 years until his death. Marie and Margaret Chambliss (Mrs. John) planted masses of wildflowers, native trees and shrubs at Reflection Riding to enrich the existing plant life. After Harold's death, Marie served as Reflection Riding manager for several years. The Humphreys House at Reflection Riding, where she lived for over 50 years, was constructed from three historical Hamilton County houses which she reassembled.

Marie was preceded in death by husband Harold M. Humphreys, a Chattanooga labor law attorney; son Dr. Gilbert Humphreys, DVM; sisters Harriette A. Lawson, Bertice A. Douglass, and Billie Akin.

Survivors include daughter Caroline Humphreys Brown (Jack), of Dalton; daughter-in-law, Bobbie Anne Humphreys Parker, of Chattanooga; grandchildren, Becky Humphreys (Tony) Smallwood, of Lawrence, Kan., Dr. Lewis (Alicia) Humphreys, of Dothan, Ala., Mal (Anne) Humphreys, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., Lina Humphreys (Peter) Thomas, of Ooltewah, Caroline Brown (Steve) Hudson, of Fairfax, Va., Thomas (Janet) Brown, of Dalton, Harold (Leigh Anne) Brown, of Huntsville, Ala., David (Jennifer) Brown, of St. Louis, Mo., 17 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Harold and Marie Humphreys Scholarship Fund at Covenant Seminary, 12330 Conway Road, St. Louis, MO 63141; or to World Missions at First Presbyterian Church of Chattanooga, 554 McCallie Ave., Chattanooga.

Graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010, at Forest Hills Cemetery in Chattanooga with the Rev. John Allen officiating.

LaFAYETTE -- Daniel Barry McGill, 61, died Friday March 12, 2010.

He attended Sunnyside Baptist Church.

Preceded by his parents Buford and Virginia Holbert McGill; wife Eva Elaine Green McGill; and stepdaughter Sloan Gamble.

Survived by daughter and her husband, Derena McGill Wallin and Jerty Don Wallin Jr.; sister, Brenda Hightower; brother, Randy McGill; special friend, Edna Richardson; grandchildren Ashley Andreana Carroll, Michael Tyler McGill, Paden Harris, Carly Gamble; nieces Christian Russell and Tara Burns.

Martin Nethery

DADE COUNTY -- Martin "PaPooh" Allison Nethery, 89, passed away Friday, March 12, 2010.

He was a lifelong resident of Dade County and graduated from Dade County High School in 1938. He served in World War II in Alaska as a pilot in the Army Air Corps. Shortly after leaving the military he returned to Dade County, where he owned the Western Auto Store in Trenton, Ga., for several years before his employment with the United States Postal Service as a rural letter carrier. He retired from the Postal Service in 1986.

He was an active member of the community and a member of several civic organizations. He was a member of Saint Katharine Drexel Catholic Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Grady and Grace Allison Nethery; a brother James Grady Nethery Jr.; and son Michael James Nethery.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Val Nethery; daughters, Patricia Nethery (Anthony) Emanuel, of Dade County, Dana Allison Nethery, of Hopkinsville, Ky.; son, K. Paul (Carolyn) Nethery, of Dade County; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. EDT on Monday, March 15, 2010, at St. Katherine Drexel Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. EDT today, March 14, 2010, at Ryan Funeral Rome, Trenton, Ga.

FOREST PARK -- Juanita Lady Powell passed away Friday March 12, 2010.

She was preceded in death by husband, Harry Powell; son Raymond A. Powell; and brothers Cecil and Leon Williams.

She is survived by daughters, Dr. Janice P. Maddox, Dublin, Ga., Susie P. Evans, Ringgold, Ga., and Norma Jean Fortier, Forest Park, Ga.; son, Richard H. Powell, Marietta, Ga.; and daughter-in-law, Barbara C. Powell. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Juanita "Lady" Powell of Forest Park will be held 2 p.m. Monday, March 15, in the chapel with the Rev. Doug Lawson and the Rev. Kelly Maddox officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Rhonda Ward; daughter, Amber Ward; sisters, Linda Mitchell, Lookout Mountain, Ga., Lera Jane Ward, Summerville, Ga.; brothers, Marvin Ward, Rossville, Richard Ward, LaFayette, Ga., Gary Ward, Chickamauga; grandchildren, Alex Logan Butler, and Harley and Hayley Hampton; and several nieces and nephews.

William Cross

GREENVILLE, S.C. -- William Joseph Cross, 88, died Wednesday, March 3, 2010.

He was married to his faithful wife, Helen Loudon Cross, for over 63 years. Mr. Cross was the father of two married daughters, Sheryl (George) Farquhar and Jan (Bob) Borger, with seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was the fourth of Walter and Myrtle Cross' 11 children.

William Cross served in the U.S. Army during World War II during which time he did not see his fiancée for three years, three months and seventeen days. He was the founder and president of Cross Printing of Wilmington, Del., and also worked for World Presbyterian Missions. In his retirement years he became an accomplished wood carver of shore and marsh birds.

Mr. Cross was an elder in Presbyterian Churches for 57 years including Highlands Presbyterian in LaFayette, Ga., and as a deacon at First Presbyterian in Fort Oglethorpe. He loved Christ's church and served her with faithfulness and generosity.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three of his brothers.

Funeral services occurred at Mitchell Road Presbyterian Church, Greenville, S.C., on March 6.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at Chattanooga National Cemetery. Friends are welcome.
