There are lots of reasons for all Americans to be greatly concerned about the economic recession that is hurting many of our people. But aren't we threatening to make the recession worse by letting Washington impose more governmental burdens that make it harder for our free enterprise system to pull us out to recovery?
One of the biggest burdens on our economy involves too-high taxes -- coupled with far too much irresponsible, unnecessary, unconstitutional, unproductive and unwise government spending.
When the federal government has run up a $12.5 trillion national debt -- and is planning to add about $1.6 trillion of red ink to it in the next year -- do you believe our federal officials are being financially responsible? Rather, the government is inviting more recession.
We certainly are reasonably concerned about how many Americans there are who want to work but are unemployed. But will the Senate's vote this week to add $130 billion to the federal budget deficit by providing up to 99 weeks of unemployment compensation be a "cure" for recession -- or is it a symptom of some of the causes of recession?
Helping the jobless is one thing, but there are countless federal government spending items that are absolutely irrational and depressing. In many cases, the best recovery medicine would be for government to "get out of the way" and just quit doing some of the things it is doing that are expensive, burdening productive free enterprise employers, and are not really economically stimulating.
Adding more national debt will not salve our economic pains and solve our economic problems.
CTFP opinion;
Worry over recession, but

There appears to never be an end to your short term memory or your thinking that the people have forgotten when this recession started and what has been done to try to keep this Nation from falling into another deep depression?
If you were sincere in explaning to the readers of the CTFP the full story of how we got into this recession and the choices of what needs to occur to prevent another deep depression. You are only stirring up the people against the budget deficit spending for the bailouts and the stimulus recovery as if all of it was wasted spending. It would help the readers understand what has caused the loss of our jobs and how badly we need to get jobs for putting people back doing productive work.
If all of the jobs created are supported by government money, that is unstainable, so where is all of the free market investments for creating jobs? They have been investing their money into their plants in the lower wage countries, to use the lower cost labor, but then they import their goods back into the US for our consumers to buy. As we are finding out this trade policy has turned out to be unsustainable. When people are not working they can't buy.
My question to you is; What if all the government budget deficit spending were to stop instantly? You will not explain what would happen in this case because that make President Obama look as if he was doing all he could to to save the jobs and put more people to work on our infrastructure, but we still need private investors to create jobs. Where are they?
"It would help the readers understand what has caused the loss of our jobs and how badly we need to get jobs for putting people back doing productive work".
This may be difficult for the Leftist mind to grapple with, but the jobless American people do understand they need a job. They do understand why and how their jobs were taken from them. This is classic Progressive elitism-mindset talk: that Americans are too stupid to know anything, so they need Big Daddy Unions and Gov't to think for them. And create jobs.

True and not true. Classic Left-Prog talk re: Big, Bad, Evil Companies who outsourced our jobs. Thanks to "Free" Trade and NAFTA, all done by Progressives in Washington BTW.
The facts you leave out carlbub, is that SMALL Businesses are the time-proven job creators, not Obama's Big Stimulus, Big Daddy, Andy Stern, SEIU, Gov't.
Nobody here is claiming that ending ALL spending is the answer. They are just demanding that Obama live up to his promises and the Dems big talk in the last campaign, and BE transparent, STOP wasteful, pork spending, STOP waste and fraud in your own House, freeze useless, non-essential programs like PBS, ACORN (full of fraud), Air America, the National Arts Council, University Research projects like "climate change" (that suggestion has the "scientists" enraged and mobilizing the media again), funding of inane, insane research and idiocy across the country and given to any Tom, Dick or Sally who applies for a grant, STOP blaming the last administration and reminding the Repubs, "you lost, we won", STOP kissing up to our enemies, and most of all, STOP giving OUR money to enemy regimes and countries who are 1) Hostile to us and 2) Waste and indulge in corruption once they get our money.
It's kind of like a no-brainer, Bub. Start demanding of the Gov't you have in power now, that they cease and desist. Kinda like the NEWS article above. The Editor is doing his/her job. Reporting the news of the day. Start living in the here and now and questioning your Party's Reps. Or sound off to them. Lord knows they need and deserve it.
