The Cleveland State baseball team, ranked 22nd in NJCAA Division I, defeated No. 8 Wabash Valley 9-6 on Monday. Cody Ferrell got the win and Matt Lynum recorded a save with two innings of one-hit pitching.
Ryan Casteel had three hits for the winning Cougars (11-5), while Cody Hooper and Troy Zawadzki had two-run doubles, Gray Hutchinson doubled and singled in runs and Ryan Mutchnick also had an RBI single. Hooper and Mutchnick joined Hutchinson with two hits.
n Covenant 8, Atlanta Christian 5: At Covenant, Ty McTier had a two-run double and another RBI in the Scots’ win. Luke Furuto doubled twice and scored twice and Jonathan Carter had a triple and two RBIs for Covenant (5-3). Sterling Witt got his first college win, and fellow freshman Brian Simons allowed one hit in three innings for the save.
n Lee 14, Bryan 5: At Cleveland, Tanner Moore homered, tripled and drove in four runs and Seth Walker was 3-for-4 with a homer, a double, three RBIs and three runs scored for the host Flames (16-4). Jose Cuevas was 3-for-5 with three runs and J.J. Costantino and Ross Collins had two RBIs apiece.
Justin Mock and Kevin Layne each had two RBIs and Jonathan Davis and Josh Harris each was 2-for-5 for Bryan (10-10). Harris scored twice.
