Menisha Vinson, of Soddy-Daisy, was killed in a single-vehicle crash that four others escaped on Old Dayton Pike early Sunday, according to spokeswoman Officer Rebecca Royval.
About 3:15 a.m. police were dispatched to 6135 Old Dayton Pike where a vehicle left the road and entered a creek, Officer Royval said.
Four people got out of the vehicle, but Ms. Vinson, 31, of Barbee Road was trapped and was pronounced dead at the scene, she said.
According to police, the occupants of the vehicle had been in a fight at Rob's on Dayton Boulevard and left in the 2004 Chevy Tahoe at a high rate of speed.
Evidence at the crash site indicated the driver did not attempt to brake and failed to negotiate a curve, leaving the road and landing in the creek bed below, Officer Royval said. None of the occupants were wearing seat belts, and Ms. Vinson was partially ejected, Officer Royval said.
No charges have been filed at this time, but alcohol and speed were both factors in the crash that is still under investigation, Officer Royval said.
Fire burns house for second time
About 10:50 p.m. Saturday, the Hamilton County 911 center received numerous calls about a reported house fire in the 8000 block of Shallowford Road.
Since the site was close to the Chattanooga city limits, both the Chattanooga Fire Department and the Tri-Community Fire Department were dispatched. Upon arrival, it was determined that the fire was located at 8012 Shallowford Road inside Chattanooga.
Firefighters reported a fully involved fire in the structure that had been vacant since a previous blaze in December, according to Chattanooga fire officials.
Large hose streams were used from the outside of the structure because the house had significant damage from the previous fire and was considered too unsafe to enter, fire officials said. Traffic on Shallowford Road between Jenkins and Ranch Hills roads was closed because fire hoses had to be stretched across the road.
Firefighters from four units fought the fire for about 30 minutes until the blaze was declared under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chattanooga Fire Department. No injuries were reported, fire officials said.

The incident occurred at 4303 Seventh Ave. at Asamblea de Dios during a church service, Officer Royval said.
Parents told police that they noticed their child choking on something and immediately called for EMS. The child was pronounced dead at T.C. Thompson Children's Hospital.
This case is pending the outcome of the medical examiner's findings, Officer Royval said.
