Ska/Punk from Duppy a Jamba in Studio ’99

Jamaican Ska music is still alive and kicking thanks to a recent resurgence in the genre. Recently, one of those bands stopped by Studio ’99 to chat about their music. Duppy a Jamba hail from Newport, Ky. — just outside of Cincinnati. Their music is best described as Third Wave Ska, similar to bands of the mid to late 90’s, but contains elements of punk and jazz as well. They recently performed at JJ’s Bohemia and I’m delighted to have had them in for a MUSICcast. Their self-titled release came out in July of this year and is available for purchase at their myspace page.

Jeff Holmes is the lead singer/songwriter of the Floating Men. He’ll be performing his Americana Rock Opera “No Clocks, No Calendars” at the Barking Legs at 8pm on Friday. This should be fun.

Swampdawamp is performing at Midtown Music Hall tonight. The show is at 10 p.m.

Appetite for Destruction: a tribute to Guns N’ Roses is performing at Rhythm & Brews on Saturday night. Tickets are $10. Show is at 9 p.m.

Have a great weekend.
