James Taylor, Carly Simon son at Rhythm & Brews

Get excited all you Chattanooga music fans because tonight (May 20), you have the opportunity to knock off a few degrees of separation between yourself and singer/songwriting legends James Taylor and Carly Simon. Their son, Ben, is taking the stage tonight at Rhythm & Brews for a double bill with his friend David Saw.

For those of you who are fans of his father, you’ll definitely see that lineage in Ben’s lanky appearance, but where it’s going to strike you the most is vocally. With a subdued, seductive, sleepy delivery, I’m expecting you could probably cover your eyes and pretend you’re paying multiples of the R&B ticket price ($12) to see his father.

We’ve had a number of children of famous musicians play the Scenic City. Some of their performances are disappointing (Heather Hayes), but some (Shooter Jennings and Justin Townes Earle) prove they’re equally as deserving of your attention as their parents.

Judging by what’s on his myspace page (www.myspace.com/bentaylorofficial), I’m betting Ben’s going to fall in the latter category, so don’t miss this one.
