Pikeville fire victim ID'd in Pikeville house fire
PIKEVILLE, Tenn. — Bledsoe County authorities have identified the victim in a fatal house fire downtown on Tuesday as 46-year-old Clyde Angel.
Investigators are treating the blaze at 412 Blaine St. as a “suspicious fire,” said Bledsoe County Sheriff’s Department Investigator Ricky Seals.
“But at this point, we don’t see any criminal activity,” Mr. Seals said. “There are just some questions we’re trying to answer.”
The fire started inside the house, state Bomb and Arson Special Agent George Rogers said.
Mr. Angel was one of three adults in the house when the fire started about 8 p.m. CDT, Mr. Rogers said. The other two people were identified as Eugene Angel and Donny Lawson, he said.
Mr. Rogers said the fire appears to be accidental but a formal ruling won’t be issued until an autopsy is performed.
“There doesn’t appear to be anything that indicates foul play,” he said.
Investigators at the scene believed the fire possibly was caused by an electrical problem, he said, but officials have not yet proved what started the blaze.
Mr. Seals said nearby family members and neighbors reported the blaze but the older, frame house was gutted before the flames were doused.
He said Mr. Lawson and Eugene Angel ran out and tried to extinguish the flames but were unable to get back inside.
Autopsy results should be known in the next couple of days, he said.
