Chattanooga area teachers among Tennessee's best

Two Hamilton County educators were among those honored Friday during the Tennessee Education Association’s annual awards.

Linda “Link” Raulston Sparks was named a 2007-08 Distinguished Classroom Teacher, and Sylvia C. Dance was presented an E. Harper Johnson Human Relations Awards in the educator category, according to a TEA news release.

Ms. Sparks teaches dual enrollment English and serves as a literacy coach at Soddy-Daisy High School.

Ms. Dance serves as a guidance counselor at Clifton Hills Elementary School and led the Safe Schools Initiative in 2000.

The Tennessee Education Association is the state’s largest professional organization representing over 55,000 elementary and secondary teachers, school administrators, education support personnel, higher education faculty and students preparing to become teachers.
