Burning truck slows I-24 traffic up mountain

Fire destroyed a tractor-trailer truck Friday afternoon on Interstate 24, slowing traffic in westbound lanes to a crawl up Monteagle Mountain, according to communications officers with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred about 5:30 p.m. CDT when a truck caught fire while climbing the mountain and pulled to the side of the road, officials said.

Traffic was never completely stopped, but the inside lane was closed for several hours, officials said.
