Chattanooga: Audi CEO signals U.S. plant
Audi and Volkswagen could be building cars at the same U.S. plant.
Volkswagen's premium brand Audi stands to benefit "tremendously" from a U.S. plant as the carmaker struggles to cope with stiffer external headwinds including the strong euro, Audi’s chief said Wednesday in a Reuters story.
While CEO Rupert Stadler has confirmed he is looking into cooperation with Volkswagen to build vehicles in the United States, his comments that the company would benefit from local production are the strongest sign yet Audi David Tulis 5/7/08 needs a U.S. plant.
Volkswagen has said it is looking at Tennessee, Alabama and Michigan for a plant.
c’s Enterprise South industrial park is seen by industry experts as a good candidate.
Meanwhile, BusinessWeek reported Wednesday that Michigan has been eliminated from consideration and a decision by Volkswagen is expected by June.
