Georgia leads SEC in football APR, second in basketball

Georgia ranks among the Southeastern Conference’s top three in football, men’s basketball and women’s basketball in the annual Academic Progress Rate scores released Tuesday by the NCAA.

Georgia’s multiyear APR for football was 965, tops among all SEC schools, while the men’s basketball rate of 958 was second only to Vanderbilt. The Lady Bulldogs had a score of 971, placing them third in the league.

All 20 of Georgia’s countable sports were above the 925 cutoff, and 14 were higher than the national average for Division I schools.

“We’re pleased to be above the established cutoffs in all our sports and above the national averages in most of our varsity programs for all institutions as well as all public institutions,” Georgia athletic director Damon Evans said. “I’m especially pleased with our standing among other SEC schools. However, even though our scores are good, we are committed to ongoing efforts at strengthening the academic performance of our student-athletes on a daily basis.”
