Meigs County High School is looking for another baseball coach.

Kyle Jackson has resigned those duties and his teaching position after just one year at the Decatur school.

“I knew it would be hard to keep him because he’s so highly thought of and because he has so many connections,” said Clint Baker, the Meigs principal and a former Tigers coach. “He wasn’t actively looking, but a couple of things popped up.”

Jackson had an opportunity to take an assistant’s job at Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville but decided to take a business opportunity in Cape Coral, Fla.

Jackson, who played for Lipscomb University and served as an assistant at Lee University, led Meigs to a 19-11 record and the District 5-AA semifinals this spring.

“Say what you want about Meigs County, but there are a whole lot of good people there. They treated me with the utmost respect and welcomed my wife and me with open arms,” Jackson said.

Jackson worked extensively with volunteers to upgrade the facilities and invested off-field time with players.

“I tried to bring a college atmosphere to the team,” he said, “from up-tempo practices to the way we dressed and carried ourselves.”

It paid off. The Tigers, who returned only three starters, had wins over eventual district champion McMinn Central and Walker Valley’s well-regarded Class AAA team.
