Hamilton County: Adams recommends tax relief, ‘proud’ of East Ridge tax increase

by Matt Wilson

Hamilton County Commissioner and East Ridge City Manager Curtis Adams said today he wants the county to provide a full match to a state tax relief program for seniors.

The tax relief program, which provides rebates to seniors older than 65 who make $24,790 per year or less, would serve as an alternative to a property tax freeze program for seniors who make $32,890 per year or less, he said.

County Commission Chairman Bill Hullander had earlier suggested a 50 percent match.

Speaking to the East Ridge Council of the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Adams also listed several uses for the proposed 47-cent property tax increase in East Ridge, including new vehicles and lighting.

“I’m proud to say that we’re going to raise taxes 47 cents,” he said.
