ATH Xavier Avery Ellenwood, Ga.

Avery had his best statistical year as a Cedar Grove junior, rushing for 1,115 yards and hauling in 18 receptions for 193 yards. He had 20 catches for 256 yards as a senior, while also recording 38 tackles and seven tackles for loss. The nation’s No. 57 running back prospect according to Scout.com and No. 25 athlete prospect according to Rivals.com committed to Georgia in October over Oklahoma. Avery’s arrival in Athens this summer isn’t a certainty, however, because he could be a high-round pick in the June baseball draft. He is Baseball America’s No. 25 prep prospect following a junior year in which he hit .688 and was 47-for-47 in stolen bases.
DB Brandon Boykin Fayetteville, Ga.
5-10, 171 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
Boykin made 23 tackles, five interceptions and nine pass breakups as a Fayette County senior. He also played some quarterback, completing 33 of 43 passes for 416 yards and three touchdowns and rushed 94 times for 600 yards and six scores. The nation’s No. 14 cornerback according to Scout.com and No. 15 corner according to Rivals.com committed to Georgia last March over scholarship offers from Georgia Tech, Ole Miss and Duke.
ATH Sanders Commings Augusta, Ga.
6-2, 195 Rivals.com ranking: 3 stars
Commings missed five games this past season at Westside High but still tallied 41 tackles and three interceptions. He also had 109 rushing yards, 248 receiving yards and four receiving touchdowns. The nation’s No. 39 cornerback according to Scout.com and No. 72 athlete according to Rivals.com committed to the Bulldogs in October over offers from Maryland and South Carolina.
LB Marcus Dowtin Fork Union, Va.
6-2, 215 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
Dowtin registered 76 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two sacks and one fumble recovery as a Fork Union Military senior, and he also had 1,202 rushing yards and 15 rushing scores on 121 carries (9.9 yards per carry). The nation’s No. 7 weakside linebacker according to Scout.som and No. 16 outside linebacker according to Rivals.com committed to Georgia last June over offers from California, Maryland, Michigan, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
OL Cordy Glenn Riverdale, Ga.
6-5, 313 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
Glenn was named to SuperPrep’s All-Dixie and All-America teams and was among the strongest players last month at the Offense-Defense all-star game in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He has a bench press of 375 pounds and a squat of 465. The nation’s No. 15 tackle according to Scout.com and No. 16 tackle according to Rivals.com was Georgia’s next-to-last commitment, pledging Nov. 18. He chose the Bulldogs over scholarship offers from Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Louisville, South Carolina and Virginia.
WR A.J. Green Summerville, S.C.
6-4, 190 Rivals.com ranking: 5 stars
Green caught 72 passes for 1,437 yards (a 20.0-yard average) and 15 touchdowns this past season at Summerville High after catching 65 passes for 1,203 yards (18.5) and 14 scores as a junior. He committed to Georgia in November 2006, picking the Bulldogs over Auburn, Clemson and South Carolina. He is rated by Rivals.com and Scout.com as the No. 2 receiver nationally.
DL A.J. Harmon Louisville, Ga.
6-5, 328 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
Though he has been projected on offense, Harmon will start out on defense, which is his preference. He recorded 100 pancake blocks during his Jefferson County career while also tallying 200 tackles (161 solo, 39 assist). The nation’s No. 10 offensive tackle according to Scout.com and No. 2 guard according to Rivals.com was Georgia’s last commitment. Harmon first committed to Clemson but switched Jan. 5, when he announced at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in San Antonio that he would play for the Bulldogs.
LB Akeem Hebron Georgia Military College
6-1, 220 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
Hebron has returned to Athens after being dismissed from the program last spring for a second alcohol-related arrest and playing this past season at Georgia Military, where he tallied 25.5 tackles, three tackles for loss and two sacks. He was one of two Parade All-Americans in Georgia’s 2006 class, with the other being quarterback Matthew Stafford.
RB Dontavious Jackson Franklin, Ga.
5-10, 190 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
Jackson had his senior season scratched at Heard County in the first game by a wrist injury after rushing for 2,462 yards and 29 touchdowns on 247 carries (10.0 yards per carry) as a junior. The nation’s No. 8 running back according to Rivals.com and No. 23 running back according to Scout.com committed to the Bulldogs in late October and enrolled last month. He also had scholarship offers from Alabama, Clemson, LSU and Penn State.
DE Toby Jackson Griffin, Ga.
6-5, 260 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
Jackson had 63 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and six sacks this past season at Griffin High after recording 73 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and six sacks as a junior. The nation’s No. 5 strongside defensive end according to Rivals.com and No. 9 defensive end according to Scout.com committed to Georgia last June over Miami and Southern California.
OL Ben Jones Centreville, Ala.
6-2, 306 Rivals.com ranking: 3 stars
Jones played both ways for Bibb County High, registering 55 tackles, six tackles for loss and three sacks as a defensive tackle. He also pitched and played first base each spring, tallying a career batting average of .345 and setting a school record with 48 RBIs in 2007. The nation’s No. 5 center according to Scout.com and No. 7 center according to Rivals.com committed to the Bulldogs last June over early offers from Alabama, UAB and Air Force. He enrolled early to compete for the center spot vacated by fifth-year senior Fernando Velasco.
WR Tavarres King Mt. Airy, Ga.
6-1, 160 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
King had 99 receptions as a Habersham Central senior for a state-record 1,632 yards (16.5-yard average) and 17 touchdowns. As a junior, he caught 42 passes for 700 yards and 10 scores. The nation’s No. 15 receiver according to Rivals.com and No. 22 receiver according to Scout.com committed to Georgia last May over offers from Clemson, Florida and Georgia Tech. He enrolled last month.
DE Jeremy Longo Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
6-3, 255 Rivals.com ranking: 3 stars
Longo set a Cardinal Gibbons High record this past season with 23 tackles against Naples and had 135 tackles and eight sacks as a junior. The nation’s No. 24 weakside defensive end according to Rivals.com and No. 30 overall defensive end according to Scout.com committed to the Bulldogs last June over offers from Miami, South Carolina, Virginia and Wake Forest.
OL Jonathan Owens Blountsville, Ala.
6-4, 294 Rivals.com ranking: 3 stars
Owens graded out at 90 percent or better in all 14 games this past season at Susan Moore High, and he never allowed a sack. As a junior, he averaged 6.4 pancake blocks per game and graded out at 85 percent or better in all 14 games. The nation’s No. 39 guard according to Scout.com and No. 49 guard according to Rivals.com committed to the Bulldogs last June over offers from Georgia Tech, UAB and Troy.
DB Makiri Pugh Charlotte, N.C.
6-0, 188 Rivals.com ranking: 3 stars
Pugh played in just six games this past season at Independence High, tallying 36 tackles. Independence is the same school that produced current Bulldogs receiver Mohamed Massaquoi and current backup quarterback Joe Cox. The nation’s No. 31 safety according to Rivals.com and the No. 66 safety according to Scout.com committed to Georgia last June over offers from Clemson, Georgia Tech, Maryland, Virginia and Virginia Tech.
ATH Bacarri Rambo Donalsonville, Ga.
6-0, 195 Rivals.com ranking: 3 stars
Rambo recorded 65 tackles and two interceptions as a Seminole County senior, returning one of the interceptions for a touchdown. He also rushed 110 times for 692 yards and 17 touchdowns and completed 34 of 65 passes for 615 yards and four scores. The nation’s No. 29 safety according to Scout.com and No. 40 athlete prospect according to Rivals.com committed to Georgia two weeks after signing day last year over early offers from Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech and Maryland.
LB Christian Robinson Norcross, Ga.
6-2, 205 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
Robinson tallied 64 tackles as a Greater Atlanta Christian senior and also caught 48 passes for 876 yards and 13 touchdowns. The nation’s No. 19 outside linebacker according to Rivals.com and No. 45 weakside linebacker according to Scout.com committed to the Bulldogs last May over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Georgia Tech, North Carolina and South Carolina.
TE Bryce Ros Kennesaw, Ga.
6-4, 242 Rivals.com ranking: 2 stars
Ros is the son of former Georgia linebacker Frank Ros, who captained the Bulldogs during their national championship season in 1980. The nation’s No. 22 tight end according to Scout.com committed last June over offers from Auburn, Clemson, Louisville, North Carolina, N.C. State, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
RB Richard Samuel Cartersville, Ga.
6-2, 215 Rivals.com ranking: 5 stars
Samuel rushed for 1,429 yards and 24 touchdowns as a Cass High senior and also had 114 receiving yards. On defense, he recorded 82 tackles, nine tackles for loss, two sacks and three fumble recoveries. The nation’s No. 4 running back according to Scout.com and No. 2 athlete prospect according to Rivals.com committed to Georgia in January 2007 over early offers from Clemson, Florida and Tennessee. He enrolled last month and will compete this spring for the third-string tailback spot behind Knowshon Moreno and Caleb King.
RB Carlos Thomas Frostproof, Fla.
5-7, 165 Rivals.com ranking: 3 stars
Thomas rushed for 2,386 yards and 25 touchdowns as a Frostproof High senior and amassed 6,683 rushing yards in his career. Scout.com national editor Jamie Newberg considers Thomas the “steal of the class.” The nation’s No. 15 running back according to Scout.com and No. 18 all-purpose back according to Rivals.com committed to the Bulldogs in September over offers from Notre Dame and West Virginia.
DT DeAngelo Tyson Statesboro, Ga.
6-2, 300 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
Tyson collected 54 tackles, 14 tackles for loss and nine sacks as a Statesboro High senior. The nation’s No. 3 defensive tackle according to Scout.com and No. 4 defensive tackle according to Rivals.com committed to Georgia last March over offers from Auburn, Clemson, Georgia Tech, South Carolina and Tennessee.
PK Blair Walsh Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
5-10, 175 Rivals.com ranking: 3 stars
Walsh made 14 of 20 field-goal attempts, including two from 59 yards, and made 30 of 31 extra-point kicks as a Cardinal Gibbons senior. He also averaged 41.2 yards a punt and 69 yards on kickoffs. The nation’s No. 1 kicker according to Scout.com and No. 7 kicker according to Rivals.com committed to Georgia over West Virginia last March.
DE Cornelius Washingon Waynesboro, Ga.
6-4, 217 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
Washington recorded 55 tackles (44 solo), 18 tackles for loss and six sacks as a Burke County senior. He also forced three fumbles and had seven quarterback pressures. The nation’s No. 3 weakside defensive end according to RIvals.com and No. 13 overall defensive end according to Scout.com became the first commitment for Georgia’s 2008 signing class on June 10, 2006.
LB Nick Williams Bainbridge, Ga.
6-2, 205 Rivals.com ranking: 4 stars
Williams had 41 tackles and three interceptions as a Bainbridge High senior. As a quarterback, he threw for 2,428 yards and 23 touchdowns in his four-year career. The nation’s No. 42 safety according to Scout.com and the nation’s No. 25 outside linebacker according to Rivals.com committed to Georgia in September over offers from Clemson, Georgia Tech, UAB, Louisville and South Carolina.
