Law enforcement officials say the vehicle was shot at by an assailant in a silver car in the parking lot of the restaurant. Officials say one man was sent to the hospital with a bullet wound in his back. An investigation is continuing.
About 1 p.m. today a man was shot while he was the passenger in the back seat of a black SUV in the 6900 block of East Brainerd Road, police said.
Witnesses inside the vehicle told police the car was stopped at a traffic light when a silver Chevrolet pulled up beside them and a men got out of the car and began firing shots into the back of the SUV, Chattanooga police spokeswomen Sgt. Jerri Weary said.
A man sustained one gunshot wound to his back and was transported to Ertlanger hospital where his condition is not known, Sgt. Weary said.
Police were on the scene interviewing witnesses and searching for evidence most of the afternoon.
