Buying thoughts

So Budweiser’s been purchased by a Belgium company. Miller beer has been owned a South African enterprise for a while. And, believe it or not, the South’s beloved flour, Martha White, is now owned by an outfit in the Midwest. Smucker’s, I believe. So what’s next? Will Moon Pies be made in China? Will Martha White be milled by Muscovites in Russia? Seems there’s no end to the number of American businesses now owned by foreign entities.

So, for the rest of the summer, or as long as our produce season holds out, I vow to buy nothing that is not made in America. And if I can’t get it from my garden, I’ll get it from Chattanooga Market. And if I need a beer, which happens about once a year, I’ll go and have a brew at Big River Grille. Be American, buy American. That should be everyone’s motto until to help boost our struggling economy. And one of the first places to start — and the easiest to come by — is at the table.
